I did go to the round table again and had some new NPC’s to chat with. The fugly bitch by the fingers wanted my Godrick trinket to do some upgrade, but it looked like the upgrade only applied to two weapons I don’t use, so I held off.

Something to mention here. When you get a boss upgrade you can bring it inside those giant walking guys to double it. This will give you both weapons. Some boss items can oy be doubled in the one that have giant bells dangling from them.

Damn @Whizzinby you are killing it! I'm realizing that the Confessor class probably wasn't the best character to start with, but I'm still having fun working my way up. I just found the Dragon magic island and think I'm going to start throwing some points at magic (Arcane and Faith) so I can get my spells on. Took out my first troll (the one on the coast) which was satifying. Also finally tried to face the Tree Sentinel to see where I was at and got thrashed. :ROFLMAO:

I really like how unstructured the game is - being able to just charge through the map and bypass tough enemies just to discover what is on the other side and then plotting a plan is a ton of fun. I'm still not able to beat the troll at Stormgate but decided to charge through and got the Grace on the other side. Also found that giant knight guy lying on the ground on Stormhill - thought he was dead already....nope - I just hightailed it out of there when he stood up. :ROFLMAO:

It's possible to have hours of fun on Elden Ring and take on absolutely no challenges whatsoever.

I've no doubt there is a percentage of players who have done this.

Arcane is also for Bleed as well as a couple of Incantations ala Dragon Communion/Breaths (the sleepy dragon gives you a bunch of Dragon Hearts to trade, so you don't need to kill the ones around the place at first - but they're fun!). My Dragon-killer build at Lvl 275 has 70 Fth and 40 Arcane - but I need more Arcane for the Bayle (DLC) Incants. I also have a Dex/Arc build rocking dual Bleed twin-blades.

Rot is the go-to Breath Incant.

Roll into the Tree Sentinel's swings instead of away when he runs at you. This is true of many Boss encounters. Jumping avoids Stomp attacks. Your own jump attacks are also buffed.

Lightning Spear or Catch Flame are the go-to basic attack Incants, one for distance one for close range.

You can also sneak or run past many things if they are OP for you atm.

Sleep pots are amazing for trolls - crystal darts make them attack each other if there are two of them (same for imps in caves).

At night, Death and Death-rite Birds and Night's Cavalry appear as extra field bosses too. More fun - and item drops!

I made a mad dash around Caelid and finally opened the entire map of it and graces in what seem like all the key areas. I made a suicide run up the Impassable Bridge to see if there happened to be a grace by the entrance and there was not and I ate it. I made another suicide run up Ray Liotta Academy and made it to the door but couldn’t open it, needing some glintstone key.

Went back and tried the ice gaol dude, and got him down to about 1/3rd on the first try then progressively got worst each encounter after. I friggin HATE that dude because even when you hit him with a strong it’s like he doesn’t have a reaction frame so he just always starts an attack while you are recoiling from the attack. Yo bro, I just impaled your heart, feel free to flinch dick.

Otherwise no level ups today. I’m cash strapped and don’t feel like grinding back in the south now that level ups are 14k. Might have to try picking a fight up north and seeing what happens.

I need some smithing 2’s to upgrade my claymore again, and might need to take some time tomorrow to read up on magic shit. I need to level up my attacking options and pump my strength and vigor again.

Academy Key is behind the dragon in the lake, fwiw. I forget what triggers the teleporter at Impassable Greatbridge. Maybe Blaaid in Mistwood and the Siofra River Well there - or making it to Altus.

Lhutel the Headless is a really strong early spirit summon - but that requires Mind to summon. Pick off a few caves and catacombs in the early areas for extra runes as well (Lhutel is South).

If you want smithing stones then look for caves on your map.

This particular cave is North of the lake right beside where you started the game. In fact that could be your next mission. Find caves and plunder them for upgrades.

You can get smithing stones 3 around Ray Liotta Academy (got a laugh here as that's what I call it too) too. Just circle the lake around it and look for small, grotto-looking structures.

You will fare better with better upgrades at this point than trying to eke out some extra xp.

Just FYI there's limited options to double the boss weapons, so I recommend saving them for later when you have a bunch of boss remembrances, so you can pick what you'd want.

Mind is mainly for how many spell slots you have.

Actually in Elden Ring spell slots come entirely from picking up Memory Stone items (and/or using the Moon of Nokstella which is a complete waste of a talisman slot)

Mind determines the size of your FP bar (more mind = more bar)

Honestly as a Confessor you can just buy Catch Flame from the incantation selling NPC in the Roundtable Hold and basically steamroll the game with just that spell; it's incredibly spammable and powerful. Even more so once you get the flame shrouding tear for your physick flask

Yeah I get my Souls games mixed up in this regard regularly.

For some reason I thought there would be a breather after Margit, but Stormveil is hard af and I don’t even want to know what all those dudes are pointing their firebows at and ignoring me. :ROFLMAO: I’m stopping while I’m ahead for the evening. lol
These so-called "Legacy Dungeons" are as close as Elden Rings gets to presenting like an old school Demon's/ Dark Souls game, and they're my favorite part by far. Enjoy!

I say they are the tasty main dish, and the open world is the Mariachi band nobody asked to perform at the restaurant.

I'm sure a lot of people who pick Elden Ring as their first Souls game will love it.

But for someone like me who has played pretty much all the From games, it feels like I'm encountering all the same old enemies just with new skins on them. The bosses are a lot more annoying when they have these looong, delayed attacks and let you attack maybe once between them. The open world is full of nothing, and all you can do is collect crafting crap you don't need and fight the occasional overworld enemy while trying to find the next legacy dungeon to tackle.

Stormveil is my fave legacy dungeon in ER by far

I'm one of the dudes that has played all the Souls games since the start and while I love them all Elden Ring is by far my favorite

For an old (1976 original) D&D player, I consider FROM to be the best Dungeon Masters ever.

After the initial struggle to learn it, you can make all sorts of challenge runs and in the case of DS2 and Bonfire Ascetics, you could make the world different in your game on your PlayStation to anyone else.

Yet many old school Souls players dislike Elden Ring for having too many Dungeons and too many Dragons.

WTF?!?

Ok, I jest, I get the difference between Soulsborne and ER and open spaces.

Yes, FROM resuse much code from previous titles and intend to milk that as far as possible with Elden Ring: Nightreign. They are not a huge company, or at least weren’t until ER made the $$$. They need to re-write or update the Netcode and fix the Camera and Lock issues that have been around since Demon's. And a proper Bloodborne release on PS5.

People rail about DS2 but I still think the mechanic that nearly broke me when I began was World Tendency in Demon’s Souls: whenever you died the game got harder. Echoes of that remained in Souls “Humanity” stat but is entirely absent from ER.

But the Boletarian Palace is still the best legacy dungeon/level ever in any of them, so I persevered and started a new character, which tore through the early areas 1st go.

Weapon repair – totally absurd in Bloodborne – is also absent, so you can smash your katana against a wall forever without it losing its edge.
