I have a guy that has an amp for sale I want to buy, says he is in Nebraska, and been real nice, but not a lot of info out there in internet land. Is there anyway that I can buy this amp and be protected? Going to have a video call later today to check it out.

Anyone buy an amp or guitar across the country and get protected from scams? Wants me to pay through Venmo and says I can use the purchase protection with the extra fee. Anyone use this before?

Get pictures and video. Paying via Paypal goods and services so you have that protection on your side is a must as well. Have a phone conversation if you can. Where did you "meet" this person to know about their listing?

Facebook. He has been selling pedals recently on Vintage Guitar Pedals and Effects FB Group.

Looks sketchy since he has 3-4 pedals he posted to it in the past month and his account was created 2 years ago but very few posts. Even a google search from name came up thin.

Be very careful. See if he has any other transactions in that group with good results. Is it something custom or oddball you can't get anywhere else?

I dont see any results from any of his sales but the cost is pretty good so that was the first red flag

UPDATE: He sent a FB message asking when I was paying and I asked when we could set up a video call so I could see it working. He read the message and did not respond.

My opinion..., just the fact that you're reluctant, is enough for me to recommend you pass. There's plenty of gear out there, and if you don't buy on impulse, but instead just keep watching for deals on a daily basis, you'll find something.

My last Majesty was dead mint, had just come up on Reverb, and I literally paid almost half of what they're currently asking for similar models. Although, it was from an estate, so that probably had something to do with why it was priced so low.

But my point is that deals come around on just about everything that's not super-rare. You just have to be ready to grab it, since they don't last long at all.

Yep, I almost had another one for $800 a few hours drive from me two weeks ago. I agree completely with what you are saying. Lots of used inventory on the market. Between that and a little patience on my end and I'll get one eventually. I would prefer a 1987 or Ceriatone Plexi 51 All Access anyway, but that was a good enough deal (if it was legit) to take a chance and not get hurt if I didnt like it.
