Valeton GP-5

I have this looper. These two for $200 sounds like fun.

Quite surprised to hear that the GP-5 sounds much closer to the profiled amp than the sonicake pocket master (in this video at least), maybe they improved/fixed the conversion?

I'm also curious and interested in what the situation is here. Also wondering where the M-Vave Blackbox fits into the picture now that it supports converting NAM to its internal format as well

These are finally available on aliexpress, a bit more expensive by default than other shops, but I got a coupon with a 15€ discount, so I just ordered it along with a chocolate midi plus, all for 99€ shipped.

They have them listed on Amazon in the UK for £65. Not in stock but will be soon apparently. Free 30 day returns as sold by Amazon as well

The GP-5 is currently selling at the equivalent of US$75 on all major European retailers, afaict.

One... good, i guess? outcome of all this recent NO POLITICS fiasco is that Chinese manufacturers have been forced to dump their stock on the the rest of the world, at reduced prices.

Ooops. Happens to the best of us!

I was one of the lucky ones, and jumped on the Valeton GP-5 when I first heard of it (I am a BIG fan of Ampero Stage 2 and Valeton GP-200-LT, but get fantastic sound of everything these days.) I have been testing the presets of the GP-5 and am stunned at how good they are coming from such a small unit, even compared to my GT-1000Core, GX-10, HX-Stomp, etc., etc....

Amazing (to me, anyway (my use case is different from yours, I"m sure, but still ....

I've just got mine yesterday.
I have preordered it from Pedalzoo about a month ago. First impressions after fiddling with it for a couple of hours:
  • This pedal is REALLY small. I mean, I've seen videos and pics, I have some other effect pedals in a small form factor, and I don't have a TonexOne to compare the size, but man, the GP-5 is really small! Amazing how they could cram so many features into such a small box, I'm impressed!
  • The display is crisp and clear, very usable.
  • It can be powered from either 5V or 9V. To me at least, that's a plus, because I need the 5V for the Chocolate Plus MIDI controller, so now I can power both pedals from one adapter.
  • Connects very fast to the app via BT, no issues.
  • The app is very well done. Intuitive and easy to use, did not need to read the manual.
  • Tone wise - I only checked out the default presets that came with the pedal, tweak them a bit here and there to get a feel of what the amps and the effects can do, I did not load any IRs or NAM files, but at a first glance:
    • Effects are OK. I would have loved to see more parameters on some effects though (i.e. pre-delay on reverbs, etc.).
    • Amp sims are OK, but not something I can go crazy about.
    • The preloaded NAM files - some of them are excellent. I did not try to compare the preloaded files with of the the original NAM files with the help of a NAM player (I don't even know if I can find the original captures they used to load into the pedal), so I don't know if there's a big difference or not, but I don't care, they just sound very good, period. I will be loading some NAM files to see how good the conversion is at one point, but just using the files GP-5 came loaded with will be more than enough for me.
I will have to connect it to the MIDI controller next.

Valeton just released a firmware update for the GP-5, frmw ver 1.0.6:

The app (Valeton Suite) has an update as well, it went from 1.0.3 to 1.0.4, but I couldn't get the update to load on iOS. It did load on Android though.
