Valeton GP-5

Well, many of those smaller units are actually allowing for full MIDI access as it's what they're already using for editor communication.

I stand corrected then, I did not notice them saying that on any of the YT videos I have watched. I dont need MIDI anyway so if it was mentioned I probably missed it on those other units.

I've messed with MIDI a little before, but really out of my element here. Why would you need MIDI support on something like this anyway? I assume you would still need a host since it looks like the best any of these units would be able to do is MIDI over USB, am I thinking about this correctly?

Nah, you really hardly ever see that mentioned as it requires some kinda "hacking", such as in getting a decent MIDI-to-USB interface and checking out all sorts of parameters (or monitoring what messages the editor app is throwing out). Defenitely not some "let's just do it" affair. But still, there's things such as the unofficial editors for, say, the Zoom MS series, which are created based on such endeavours.

To control it from a centralized MIDI controller. I'm using TouchOSC on a tablet for that, running a wireless MIDI connection to my pedalboard. Works extremely well. But it requires quite some tinkering, so it's defenitely not for everyone.

That might be MIDI Sysex for editor, which isn't easy to translate to using MIDI PC/CC stuff without some middleman software doing the translation to whatever Sysex is used.

Yeah, I know. I think the best way to access them (or rather find out which ones they are) is to have some monitoring software and look at the communication between editor and device (which should be possible using an external USB-to-MIDI box and a second through port).
