UA Lion '68

Sounds very close, which again proves that most of any "magic" people hear in the UA pedals is that they just like how UA cab sims sound, or maybe the room mic stuff.

On the flipside, the all tube preamp of the IRX seems like a bit of a nothing-burger really, when the fully digital solution can sound the same at about half the size.

Ever since getting the BluGuitar Amp 1 ME, I've been pretty convinced that digital or even analog solid-state can replicate the preamp of a tube amp very well, so to me these "tube preamp + IRs" or "tube preamp + SS poweramp" pedal size things don't have a lot of appeal.

I definitely agree with the UA cabs point for those who like UA stuff. I really like the OX Stomp I own. Best purchase I’ve made for my loaded down amps in a long time. At least I know it can sound as good as the Friedman but I was only mildly impressed with that so I’ll wait and see for the local store to get time with the Lion.

I miss some features too. But IMO it does feel more like a tube amp compared to every other modeler I've tried, and that ultimately the one feature I really care about.

If I made a video of two cars going through a track, both apparently going about same speed, following the same driveline... It says very little about the experience of actually driving them. That's where I stand about these A/B audio tests. Not useless, no, but it just doesn't show the whole picture.

agreed. Lion has one great feature: bloody fingers. Because you can't stop playing ...

Very cool. Mine should be here Friday. With amps tones live, for my main gig, I just use one amp and some pedals. I don’t need loads of amps, midi, etc for that so I don’t miss the feature some complain about but I see why some don’t understand why they aren’t there. That said if the tone and feel is there for me it’s a win regardless if it doesn’t have every feature I’d want.

That dude is a great player and I thought his comments with good and not so good were very even handed. Also yes his live tones were really good.
big Lion fanboy here, but gotta admit the real amp guy on stage had a nicer cutting tone in comparison.

seems like UA have trademarked some pedals under the name of ANTI and ANTI 1992

1992 must have been the year when pedal manufacturers began implementing midi into products.
