Tuners

You're probably not using them correctly.
Sounds crazy, but a lot over very experienced musicians struggle with cheap or mediocre tuners simply because they don't tune correctly. This is particularly true with players that never took formal lessons.
I doubt that is the case with @Eagle .

The only clip-on tuner I like is the TC one. Other than having to change the battery they (I have 2) have been solid.

I’m a full time tech for 35years . The Tu2/3 have poor accuracy and if you test them with an old school Peterson strobe (not the digital ones they sell now) they are out and have a wide range of what they say is in. I have come across multiple TU 2s that don’t even agree with each other.

I get that there's certainly more accurate tuners out there, but when people say they can't get an accurate tuning out of an industry standard Boss tuner, It sort of comes off like saying they can't get a decent tone out of a Twin Reverb. You just assume they're doing something wrong.

With your background, that's probably not the case, but as someone that had given lessons for many years, I can honestly say that it's surprising how many good musicians don't tune correctly.

As far as the Boss stuff, there's definitely truth to some of the TU-2 tuners starting to age out, but you got to have a lemmon for a TU-3 to be off from my experience.
I respect your opinion, regardless.

Yes, but it will cost you $90 an hour.
I mean if I tune a guitar with a boss tuner and go by only the display it isn’t sounding good to me and it just isn’t good enough for intonation. The only pedal tuner that I can use is the Turbo. I also intonate between the 3rd and 15th frets . Do this with a perfectly cut nut and you will be as in tune across the guitar as a guitar is capable of being. Better than Earvana and Buzz Feiten temper tunings.
The TU2 can hardly manage 3/10 cent and the Turbo is a true strobe with 1/50 . The turbo is the only pedal tuner that I can just go by the display and it sounds right. All the others and I am making adjustments to my ears and you can’t do that on mute at a gig . I am being hyper critical but when you can get a tuner that is actually “ in tune” why use one that is only ball park and different on different days.
Yes pedal guys I know you like the buffer but I like true bypass loopers.

Bought a used Turbo Tuner ST-300 a few years ago and haven't looked for a tuner ever since.

I do sometimes use phone apps for tuning e.g in a guitar store or tuning my acoustic.

Having used an old Peterson strobe ( real strobe) for years I am super picky. The first thing I will say is the new Peterson pedals are no way a replacement and not particularly in tune to my ears. I find most tuners to sound a shade off with one exception. The Turbo Tuner, it sounds sweet and right. It also is 5x tighter tolerances than the Peterson pedal. The boss sounds like ass and the rest are in the middle. Live it doesn’t matter much but for intonation and setup the Turbo is the best option by a mile.

For a pedal tuner.....my ONLY choice is Sonic Research Turbo Tuner ! :chef
Hmm , you got my interest. I'm thinking about buying one. Do you like to use the ST-300 Mini, or the regular size ST-300? I seen people selling used ones at inflated prices on Reverb, eBay and other sites.

Here's the link to the Sonic Research site where they are selling their new ST-300 Turbo Tuners for $139 USD.

I have the full size one and the main benefit is battery power. The battery seems to last a very long time too, I think mine lasted like a year. Mini is a bit smaller, though at that size I would probably look at the Peterson Mini since it has top jacks.

Full size. Buy it and it’s the last tuner you will ever buy.

Actually, I have the ST-200 (first series) AND the newer ST-300 mini. I love both of them. I've had the ST-200 at least 10 years...maybe longer.
The ST-200 has always been spot on !

The mini ST-300 runs on ac power only. Not enough room for a battery.
