Tone X Capture Thread

@2112 Still got that Zoom lying around? Does it do Satriani’s “Cryin’” thing like the 9002?
Excellent point! I'm looking forward to capturing some of the weird stuff I have like the 9030, Sansamp PSA, Yamaha DG etc.

The Mark IV captures took a few hours. Felt a little excessive pulling out a single knob and then doing another HQ capture from scratch but the Mark IV and Mark IV Phat modes turned out really good.

Cant wait to start checking out some (or all) of these tones! My buddy has a Magnatone Super Fifty Nine MKII Amps Billy Gibbons played through at the 2014 CMT Music Awards. If anyone is interested in it, let me know and I'll see if he would let me capture it.
I'm not going to say no to that lol but no pressure if not!

This probably isn't what you're talking about, but I've got one of these half digital/tube hybrid 9150 bad boys sitting around:

Just learning this stuff, so it may take a little time to get caught up. I need to learn how and this looks like the place to help. I'm sure he will let me do it when I'm ready, but I need to make sure I dont waste his time.

Nor do you want to ruin his amp :rofl

Just in case you’re the person I sold the Studio Pre to in the late 90’s/early 00’s for $125, I’m willing to buy it back for $200. Just wanted to throw that out there. :rofl

Hah! I bought it locally at a gear shop in minneapolis for like $800 or something a few years ago.

Probably about time I shared something for everyone here, and seeing as Marshall are in the news I thought I’d do a rare one.

It’s a bit of an oddity from the 70’s when Marshall were experimenting with circuits and trying to figure out how to get more gain and a good master volume. This one is sort of like a Super Lead, but with a PPIMV. But it also has a plate driven tone stack, and 10k cold clipper so you get 2203 levels of gain comfortably with it. No idea who thought putting a 100W Plexi style amp in a 1x12 combo was a good idea, but it just kind of adds to the charm of it. I believe it was mail order only, and only about 500 or so exist: There’s also a Park amp with a very similar circuit, just a couple of tweaked values. The EQ can also be used to make the sound even more aggressive. It’s almost like a Mesa Mark where the bass goes a bit weird once it’s above 0.

The MV is like the Vintage Modern, where it definitely has a sweet spot (needs to be loud). It’s quite a versatile amp if you mess around with settings and the channels and inputs. It does awesome cleans by using the bass channel and using a HINT of channel cross talk from the lead channel to get some top end.

Anyway it’s training now. It’ll be direct with no cab, but if people want a cab IR that’s paired with it, I can upload it to my website (would need to enter an email address to download though).

I have some questions
If I have understood well, if you own the tone x pedal you cannot use it to capture your amp?
So you need to buy the capture box (hardware) to do it ?
Or can You use your audio interface such as a focusrite or whatever to do the process ?
Finally the tone x pedal is just a « reader » that’s it ?

So all of you that are capturing your amps own the capture box?
You don't need the ToneX Capture box at all.

You cannot open the software, plug a mic (with eventually a preamp in between) in your soundcard to do the process ?
So long as your audio interface has a sufficient number of ins and outs, all you need is either a mic or something that will allow you to take a line out from your amp (which is effectively what ToneX Capture does).

and a reamp box so you aren’t hitting the amp with a line level signal. Some interfaces have reamp outputs but most don’t, so it’s best to find a decent one (to ensure the line level signal hits the amp the same as the guitar does).
