Not to tack a toxic poop on anyone’s
GF SL parade here but..,
I had reliability issues with 2 of them.
Just sent both back to Sweetwater
whom likely laughed at the 2 returned amps in boxes and fervently sent them back out to the next dude(s)….

It was V1 pre-amp kept dying out with good strong tubes in there, it would just cut out.
I really dug that amp man🙏
But not digging that repeated moment
getting my nuts cut off in the meat of a guitar solo.
(Twice)
It cascaded over real quick…

Bummer!

I've had nothing but great experiences with multiple Boggies. I still have a
Goldfinger 45 I use almost daily. Had a Shiva OHM Selector switch crap out
on me and Bogner sent me the part and instructions on how to install it. :chef

The Mark V, what an amp

It does so much lol channel was is crystal clean to some nice breakup

Channel 2 picks up from there to some thick fuzzy gain in Mark 1 mode

And then of course channel 3 with the bread and butter. So many tones in this amp.

The tweed option does have some background fizz that the other channels don't have. Maybe a preamp tube? It's not the end of the world but all the other channels are dead silent.
 
Where's the Gain on Channel 1 when you are using Tweed Mode??

I'd suggest not trying to peg it like it is a Marshall or Mesa. Run it
lower like a Clean Channel.... and then see how it sounds and responds
differently when you pick hard and really dig in versus lightening
up your attack.

And if you do peg it, then it'll give you that total blown Tweed vibe
ala Neil Young. But it will be a bit raucous, noisy, and squelchy. :rawk

No matter where I put it, it had that background fizz. I'll see if I can figure out which tube it is! But I'll wait, regardless it sounds fantastic!

Can definitely see how it would be an overwhelming amp though

For sure! You better know what you want or you'll get lost in the possibilities. :LOL:

Tweed is Class A. Do you have it set on 90W when using Tweed? If so, I'd suggest
the 10W setting as that is more in keeping with the actual wattage and Class
Configuration of a Tweed/Tweed Deluxe.

I did have it at 90w. I'll try 10 next time I fire up!

Thanks for your constant praise, I def would have overlooked it. I was curious how the Mark IV would sound and while it's been a few years since I've played a Mark IV, it instantly had that 3D depth that I loved about the IV. Something about that amp/channel!
 
Yeah... 90w is a LOT of headroom and power amp juice for a Tweed.

Go with Normal, 10W, and Tweed. Tube Rectifier on the back of the amp.
That would be most akin to an authentic Tweed vibe. I dig that saggy vibe.
Not everyone does, though. :idk

Then use the higher wattage settings on Channel 2 and 3.

Congrats!! Needs pics!!

Now find a bb preamp w/mid boost and run that with crunch mode on channel 2…. Magical sparks will fly :love

You're not asking, but I would run the Channel Volumes lower and the Master higher. :chef

A sort of default method for better tone at lower volume is to run your Master(s) up a bit
and then use your Channel volume to control overall Volume. Otherwise, you are only
really getting all Preamp sizzle and saturation and none of the Big Bottles and their warmth. :beer

For sure! I always turn my master all the way down before turning any amp off 🤣

Just a me thing
