The Hx 3.9 fw thread

I'll try and boil down my ever-growing wishlist to what's closest to my heart:

- Input-Triggered LFO (freely assignable to any parameter)
- channel 2 of the LAB Series L5/L7/L9 (same pre and power amp)
- a proper MKII Tone Bender (including "bias" parameter)
- Tel Ray era Morley PWO
- a proper Univox Superfuzz (Wringer is close, but different enough)
- dual Poly Octave (e.g. EHX Micro POG)

I'd take a mkii tone bender. I'd love a mki but chances of them finding a mk1 that actually sounded good to model are slim to none.

I got my EVH and 105Q, so I'm content (for now).

We still need a BPM readout for the non-scribble strip units. Just a splash screen when tapping would be nice.

In fact, as I'm quite sure no new functionality will be added, but even more so because my new main setup is fantastic (with the Stomp just serving for all things dirt and nothing else), I could as well join the pedal/amp wish list.

- MIAB pedal.
- A Touch Wah (no, the current filters don't do a great job, they all pale in comparison to the Boss model).
- A delay with an envelope shaper at its input (only affecting the wet signal). Shaving of those pesky attacks from a delay can do miracles (could post a sound example of Logic's enveloper being abused for that kinda trick).
- Caroline Guitar Wave Cannon (unfortunately this would likely need one to go direct into the HX device as it's highly depending on guitar-pedal-impedance-interaction). Incredible dirt pedal, the havoc mode just slays.
- A working fuzz. Working with a stock 1mOhm buffer that is. A VS Audio Pandora Fuzz & Boost would do.
- A simple EQ with fully parametric mids. The stock parametric EQ has too many parameters for a decent overview, especially on the Stomp.

For now.

Just to keep the ball rolling and given recent delays and reasons etc..

I'm predicting 3.9 in late Q2 2025 and 4.0 in late Q4 2025.

I'm also predicting 4.0 will be a big one

How did you get 3.9 in 2025Q2 if it took a year from 3.7 to 3.8?

I am sure that all the development of this engine will be used in the next generation, the next helix will only be more powerful and current hardware... while the helix core will continue to grow until the old hardware no longer supports it... but It's just a guess...daddy yamaha makes the decisions!

D.I kind of explained the 1 year delay - and I didn't see any indications from him that there would be a similar delay going forward. In a "normal" year, modelers are now so good but so relatively-competitive these days that 2 FW updates a year , I think would be seen as an absolute bare minimum ... but I could well be wrong :)

For a unit that will be 11 years old by then?

I take your point. Sure by 2025 it will be 10+ years old, but the algorithms arent. And as a package, I dont this there is anything that can touch a Helix LT for features, hardware UI ease of use, full floor Helix Power and algos .... and that's not even factoring in the price. Just my 2c.

I would bet for a 2.0 version of the engine, with features that can't be used in current hardware. Audio core engine will likely be the same, yes, but it should bring other UI stuff that would justify buying new hardware, not only more DSP (and I hope much more DSP is brought to the table).

Agreed , I think 4.0 might be the last one , like Fractal that generally ends the prior device with some of the features that fit from the next Gen incoming , I suspect 4.0 might be that bridge of gap
But as you mentioned things after that will not run properly

And fwiw, I *really* would love to see an RC Boost. For me there's no pedalboard without an RC boost. I own 4 (1 original and 3 clones), and usually at least 3 are kind of "active" on one or the other board.
Possibly the best "utility" boost/drive ever made. Tighten things up as with a TS, add some dirt without adding any color, just add another pretty clean "hairy" flavour to your clean rhythms, works as much in front or behind other dirt pedals, you name it. It's actually making me wonder that we don't have it already. Compared to other drives, it should be fairly simple to do.
