The "Going To An Audition" Thread

Fuck man, that was a close call, really.
That's scary.
I'm glad everything is fine. :hugitout

From now no, no more gas heating in there without proper ventilation.

I've been a volunteer on the ambulance for few years in my late 20s, and the scariest moment I had was when we've been sent into a home where all whole family (2 adults one kid) was on the ground unconscious, included the adult the called the emergency number.

It turned out to be a food poisoning in that case, but entering a house and finding everyone down is something I won't forget.

We found out it was a like a perfect storm of circumstances. Super cold temps, so the heater
ran more. It was so damn cold the other guitarist insulated his garage more and that trapped
more inside air inside, and let less fresh air circulate---which matters when you are heating a
space like a garage (apparently!).

Also, proximity and exertion. Our singer was literally breathing more than anyone else.
Singing is like running a marathon during a 3-4 hour practice---being a vocalist and all.
So, we think that's why he was effected more than anyone else. The other guitarist sits
closest to the source of heat, and has a bit of COPD, lending him to a predisposed condition.
He also chain smokes. Docs said "smokers" already have a higher CO blood levels (by 3 to 4%).
That's why we can become a little light-headed sometimes from combusting tobacco and other
....... uhmmmm.... herbs.

So if not for the extreme cold the heater would not have ran as much. Or if not for the insulation
upgrade.

I mean, we've been in that garage at least once a week for the past 15 years. Shit happens
when unexpected variables converge. Chaos Theory. :idk

It was funny, because the week after this happened all the wives were like. "No fucking way
you are going there again!"

But men being men they sometimes ignore the advice from their better halves.

So we usually have a few people (wives, GFs, friends, mates) who come to hang out with
us at practice. Not so until this past week. I guess we are all somewhat infamous locally
because of this plight. Maybe we can get some "Farewell Tour" sympathy gigs from this. :lol

Appreciate all the great advice. You guys are awesome.

And yes, we all have (and our families, too!!) brand new CO Monitors. :rollsafe

That's great, HR! Good on you for serving your community like that. :cheers

We had quite the crew show up---and the Firefighters were from an all volunteer
force, too. Not so much the Police and Ambulance/EMTs. They sent 2 Ambulances
because our 911 call was about 2 people being found unconscious. They said they
expected dead people.... because most people do not catch it.... or end up aware
... in time to be saved.

The other odd thing is that the shortest people (under 6 feet) were impacted, while the tallest
people (myself and a mutual friend, both well over 6 feet) were not. CO pools closest to the floor,
and then builds up (as you know). So, things like height and seated/standing position can
end up making a difference, too. Wild!
