I agree the IIC+ gets sort of objectified as a metal machine, it totally can do all kinds of amazing tones, as evident by it showing up in Prince’s touring rigs, and Springsteen using one for like 40 years. While those guys created memorable songs, they didn’t really do much for tonal innovation, so the amp association generally flies under the radar.

Metallica is just a massively popular band that is widely known to have created innovative heavy sounds with the IIC+. It seems like an obvious association to make. IIC+ does killer heavy tones.

I doubt 2 in 10 millennial guitarists could even name a Sykes song, not to discount his significant musical contributions.
I’m a millenial raised on classic rock and mostly 80s hair metal - I never liked Whitesnake enough to even look up who the artists names were - Mikael Akerfeldt uses the term “cock rock” and I think it applies perfectly to Whitesnake lol

The musicianship was off the charts. Obviously. I liked some songs here and there but again; Coverdale was a hard no from me. At that point I'm just cutting out the middleman and listen to the OG Plant do that thing over top of a infinitely more diverse musical backdrop.

It’s like Dream Theater - I can JUST tolerate LaBrie enough to hang around 🤣 A bad vocalist will turn me off of a band faster than anything else - rather just listen to an instrumental at that point

Coverdale has good vocal tone; I just detest the lyrics and songs.

Was just running my LP too, which has an SD Pegasus in the bridge

It’s unfortunate that a volume drops occurs when running the volume up super high when going from R1 to R2… before even getting the amp I had been talking to Mike B. About III mods, he mentioned the + and ++ mods which after having the amp I’m so happy that I don’t really want to change anything, but I’ve heard of the R2 mod… he didn’t mention that in our initial talks but maybe I should shoot him another email…
I have a Pegasus in my Strat, I LOVE it!

They are the most musically gifted band that I can’t really listen to. Partly because of LaBrie and partly because it sounds a lot like they are a group of virtuosos just running progressive etudes. I was disappointed that Portnoy went back because I like The Winery Dogs a whole lot more. Virtuosos as well, but they actually write good songs. I like Petrucci better outside of Dream Theater as well. (My two most used amps are a MkIIc+ and a JP2C, but not because I’m a fanboy, just because they are kickass amps.)

Sorry, rant off.

Have you heard of these guys? It's like DT-esque with tighter songs, and a far better singer. :idk

This is very good! Little drawn out for my ADD short attention span a$$ but very good \m/

That guy's guitar tones are consistently epic. Engls, JVMs, OG 5150s. :chef

And none of the weird ragtime or jazzcore unison riffing. Praise Da Lort!

I always thought that was all Paul Rivera modded Deluxe Reverbs and Rivera modded Marshalls. :idk

I had heard it was IIC+ but looks like I had bad intel, found an interview where Steve himself verifies that you are correct

Which I guess should be obvious because that album came out a few years before the IIC+ existed. My B :bonk

gents question: (diverting from whitesnake )

im using a pair of teles- both brightish and fairly untraditional tele setups with my iib.

im finding the tipping point of getting good sound outa my mk ii dirt is to push treble really high.. like verge of too much- to get that sorta characteristic harmonic ripping dirt. i know the manual and tons of folks are running it 9-10 with gain up- and iibs are spoda be pretty dark, but this is with presence way up as well.

seeking reassurance im not doin it wrong  it sounds mostly reasonable when i roll my guits tone knobs back- but if i try to set it lower on the treble/presence, the amp rolls off gain at the volume knob either too dark or too fast.

gracias
