Mark V:25 was lonely. I got it a brother (cousin?).

I was only playing through the Badlander tonight. VP4 into the front. Damn thing sounds amazing and I was only using the clean and crunch modes. I was also playing at low volume but it still sounded pretty great.

Tomorrow will be guitar into VP4 into the front of both amps in stereo.

Have you had a BL before? I think it got off to a bad start with the rectifier name because it is absolutely not a rectifier.

It is however an amazing amp

Mines been living at my drummers for a while now as the band practice amp. I have mixed feelings on it just playing it on my own, but fuckin a it’s glorious in a band mix

Fuses arrived while I was at band practice. Got home and decided to get freaky. As I noted earlier in the thread I noticed one of the power tubes after the blowout was not properly seated.

I started slow, swapped fuse, went into 45 watt mode, powered up…. Tubes visually look good and glowy. Amp still has some ocean noises but rocking steady in 45 watts… get courageous…. Flip to 90 watt….. whoop there she goes. Fuse blows again. Swap out the outer pair pop in another fuse….

Smooooth sailing. Amp is the most quiet it’s ever been since I’ve owned it. Sounds amazing. Honestly a bit bummed it didn’t make the EP. As much as I love the cleans on the III and IV, that lonestar clean circuit on the V is just kind of in another league

And note to self…. Next time I start hearing even vague ocean noises new power tubes going in

I’m trying to hold onto some possibly irrational hope that my other intermittent issue I was having is as somehow related to a power tube going out, but will have to explore that more another day. After midnight now and I’ve just been delightfully playing on the clean channel for the past 45 min lol

Sadly, my intermittent channel switching issue still persists, so V is still on gig probation (not that I have anything booked until May at the moment anyway)

Popped a message off to my tech to see if he could provide a vague quote with the information available. I think its gotta be the relay for channel one going on its way out

totally just absolute knucklehead question... and forgive me if you tried or know better- but having 4 mesas in 30 years, did you clean the switch jacks with alcohol? i swear to god, its happened to me multiple times where a jack messed up the amp. everything else is basically indestructible

Could be worth trying before lugging it to a tech, however, I have the same issue weather I'm using the stock DIN footswitch (and I've tried different DIN cables, and performed the mesa issued "mod" to the DIN FS jack on the amp where you basically bend the piece of metal) or if I'm using a different footswitch with the 1/4" channel switching jacks instead. So that leads me to assume that it must be an internal relay since it(intermittently) happens under both conditions

Just for due diligence gave it a a few squirts of deoxit

Had it happen almost immediately…. And then like straight up probably close to 100 test switches no issue… start getting a little excited (but I’ve been hurt before, for about a month after getting the 1/4” fs I thought I was problem free then it started happening all the tkme again)

Then I start actually playing a real song and of course as soon as I go back to the clean channel… dammit there it is again

It’s not like the worst issue in the world and can be quickly remedied by changing to another channel and back again, but can certainly knock the wind out of the sales of a dramatic distorted to clean part change if it happened at a gig

My local tech also basically implied that he didn’t want to deal with a relay swap either and I should contact Mesa lol

There are some authorized Mesa techs here I can reach out to, probably would just be a longer wait though

aw SHIT. well, im glad ya gave it a crack cause if it worked out it would been good! hopefully the fix is something like giving the relay a whack with a wrench

Glad you got the amp sorted, SOTS! I love the Mark V:90 SO MUCH! :love

I honestly haven’t played it a ton the last few months, but I can definitely say that it’s the winner of my selection in terms of channel 1 or 2. Jamming on channel 3 kind of threw me for a loop tonight, definitely sounds amazing still but I kind of favor the III and IV for the lead channel. My settings were all jacked up too and had to redial it in… kinda forgot for high gain a high set presence works best, where as with the other two I run presence pretty low

Definitely… I wish it would just magically go away but I’m pretty sure at this point someone qualified needs to go in there. Not a fan of paying or having to wait, but fortunately I also have a III and a IV and one of them Ukrainian Crab mark clones currently on the way to me haha

I should probably just bite the bullet and get it taken care of sooner rather than later lol

im with ya- i need to recap my mkii, and its just such a colossal PITA getting it 75 miles to a qualified tech :P hopefully soon!
