Synergy Owners Thread

Doesn't that come down to pot taper?
Nah, Bogners are kinda weird when it comes to the treble knobs. Pretty much all of them work like this where the treble knob is largely useless under noon, and only gets bright enough at like 7 or more.

I remember reading that they have massively less overall high end than a typical Marshall.

Re Salvation stuff: It's my only data point but the Camerock I have is a solid module, for sure, it'll get in your face with a quickness. I wouldn't doubt that some sonic variation is going to depend on the mod in question and the target of the emulation's design. I have heard good reports of both Salvation and JF stuff being a big step up from most of the OG stock Randalls.

Re JF: @MadAsAHatter Definitely awesome to hear that JF is still in operation! Maybe I will check that stuff out. I am not sure I will be motivated enough to hunt down an old MTS module only to turn around and ship it off to JF to mod, but who knows.

Looking at the current web site, looks like the Quick Mod and 1776 are both not listed from the current set. There is a Rockerverb and a Fish, though both of which are kinda sexy.

Re Amp Brightness: There are few amps as unapologetically bright as an old school Marshall. I think a lot of boutique guys have sought to tame that or to 'smooth' it out depending on what they have been going for. Trying to keep some bite but reign in the fizz and sizzle. That can be good or bad depending on what you're going for and what you like. Personally that's what I like about Marshalls and Marshall variants, so I'm put off if it is a little too rolled off.

Even if one of the old modules isn't listed in the current set he should still be able to do them do them if you ask.
I just went to his site. I didn't realize he updated everything. The JF200B came form my special request. It's a simple design, but I even created the faceplate look. After he did it, Rob said it came out so good he he was going to add it to his current offerings. Glad to see it finally made it to the lineup.

If you haven't, check out his other business EVO amps. He designed an original amp from the ground up. When I ordered mine I talked with him about it. He said it's basically a culmination of all the stuff he's learned over the years doing the MTS mods and amp mods & repairs. It's 6L6 and more American voiced. I like what he calls a Vari-Q; which is kinda like a variable mid frequency combined with a mid shift switch. Devinitely gives it a lot of versatility. It may not be an amp for everyone, but I've enjoyed having mine.

Oof. I know it's Ola and he is always going to sound good but was NOT expecting that sound out of a 20w lunchbox. :satan
Why not? They always sound great in recordings. It’s when you’re in the room with them or jamming with other musicians that you hear their limitations. I’m a fan of bigger amps for sure, but there’s no reason not to record with a lunchbox amp, they sound great miked or with IRs.

Because I said so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Tried the DRECT and IICP today... well crap, they sound better than my actual Boogies. And this is a 20w amp. Crazy!
Very cool can’t wait to see your demo
I want to hear the BE DLX
SLO in this thing

Seems like the power amp is an adjustable NFB
W settings A being like 12 o’clock neutral
B more like a Marshall low NFB
C modern tight w high NFB

Some power amp info scraped from the net:

The SYN-20IR offers unique controls for STRUCTURE and REACTANCE that tailor the response of the amp's all-analog power section. The revolutionary STRUCTURE feature optimizes the head for any channel by offering three distinct power amp configurations and feedback which are assignable to each of the amp’s channels. The STRUTURE feature significantly alters the overall contour and feel of the SYN-20IR.

There are three Structure modes to choose from:
• Mode A: Balanced negative feedback for a clear yet punchy sound
• Mode B: Vintage style phase inverter with relaxed mids and a bright, shimmering high end.
• Mode C: Modern HiFi style phase inverter and low negative feedback delivers a modern, tight feel with solid lows and a darker high end.

REACTANCE is similar to a presence knob, but with a dynamic response and variable phase inverter which simultaneously shapes the middle and treble frequencies. This powerful control helps tailor the sound to your chosen module and Structure setting.

Nice - sounds promising. I'll probably end up grabbing one just to put my "all EL84 heads are lousy" conviction to the test.
