Stuff

I'm not going to do Fractal at this time because of the interface and price. The FM9 has a decent compliment of switches, add a volume pedal and the rig costs 2K. But it still isn't something you would want to work on. It would basically just be a pedal switcher while I worked in the PC app.

I would probably do better to get an FX3 and Behringer FCB1010 footcontroller at that point. If I'm not working on the pedal, then why even have it in pedal format?

Summary:

Fractal - Disqualified by price/interface. Why have it in a pedal format if using the editing app? Might as well get the FX3 and a foot controller at that point. FM3 does not have enough switching features, and would still be using it with the editing app. Would rather own a JP2C than a FX3 and footcontrollers. If working on computer, might as well just be using Amplitube or whatever.

TMP- Does not simulate preamps and not designed to play into tube power section. So close yet so far.

QC- Last man standing?

I use an FM9 with my band, and have an AxeFX 3 that largely stays in my cave. I have no problem navigating them from the front panel. But if it’s a deal breaker for you, that’s cool.

I'm sure you can do the things you need at a gig. But did you create the patches on the FM9 or did you do it in the software?

Both. Half the time I have it in the living room and futz around while watching movies. But for the most part, I just turn it on and play. All the heavy lifting of building core presets was done a long time ago. Now, it’s generally just a matter of dropping in an additional effect block as needed and that’s about it.

Yes and no
The Fractal footswitch that pairs with it even and FC6
Is super powerful and super versatile you can do anything w those it’s not just scrolling presets it’s like a pro style switching systems the functionality and editing options are pretty endless and they integrate so well

I still kind of feel you are leaning towards a tube amp but as Jarick said above and your own experience unless you are getting the volume up the advantage or that over a modelling pre diminishes IMO

The capabilities of the Fractal foot controllers is insane, I’ve been digging into it with my Axe3 lately. For the longest time I was living on an effects layout and using the hold function on the front row to change scenes. Now I’m using the hold function on the back row to scroll through channels on certain effects.

I use the FM3/FC6 combo, and the compatibility and flexibility are excellent.

I use the OMG9 layout that they developed, and it can take me from Presets to Scenes to individual effects flawlessly. It's so well organized I can get to anything I need with a couple of clicks.

I started with the FM3/FC6 combo (bought it before the FM9 was introduced). Things escalated after that…

It’s really the difference of
Want vs Need

Although the more time you spend in the Gear Forums
The more GAS you will have

100% want in my case. All I really need is a guitar (check), an amp (check) and learning material (check).

But I want so so much (American standard Stratocaster is the latest thing i want)

Yeah.

Rational: I don’t need anything really. Just practice more

Emotional: Let’s get real. Tone is not in the fingers. It’s in new gear.

I was referring more to the emotional bond many have with vacuum tubes, which I completely understand. I still have a pile of tube amps that provide me with emotional gratification, but I’m also 100% Fractal with my band, because it does everything I need and sounds great doing it.

Ah i don’t have any and also zero emotional bond with them.

The loudness also freaks me out.

I am good with the modelers 🫡

All of my responses were proportional to the insult given.

This was a thread about my thought process regarding modeler choice for myself, not whether anyone else thinks HX amp models are as good as Fractal/whatever. Debating that shit was not the purpose of the thread. You brought it along with a healthy portion of ad hominem.
Maybe we should take a moment to discuss the conversion quality of your brain.

I'm sure it’s a great thing. I'm going to see what they do with their next generation. Or if they sell a "FX one" with just amp sims, I would get that because it wouldnt need a fantastic interface. It would just need two simultaneous amp models /boosts that you could switch between.

That will probably never happen though. The VP4 doesn't have the amp sims.

I’m lost, why don’t you just buy one of the many great tube amps with a load and DI? You just want an amp sound and you’re worried about compromises, just get the real thing and never look back.
