Strymon Echo Plugin Bundle (El Cap + Dig)

So where is the inevitable Reaper fanboy to tell us that ReaDelay is superior to all other plugins?

I’m not a delay nerd so I use this all the time, lol. AND THE UI IS PERFECT

I bought the El Capistan and DIG combo shortly after the plugin bundle came out. I bought it with the intention of using El Capistan more, but I’ve been going to the DIG much more. Perhaps I’m in a less lo-fi phase lately.

I didn’t really understand what the big deal was with the DIG when the pedal first came out, but using the plugin helped me understand. The DIG has gotten me closest to dial in Joshua Tre-era U2 delays in my DAW.

The DIG v2 is the most magically delicious digital voiced delay there is.

It's really clean but warm sounding? I dunno, I've been hearing Leon playing the DIG for years and was so close to buying it a few times but never pulled the trigger. It sounds killer though!

I'm trying to A/B between it an the Fractal to see if I can dial in something close.

I wish they had some discount pricing with the Big Sky plugin though, $200 is just too rich for a plugin to me.

I've had almost all the Stymon pedals at one point or another. The El Cap and Dig are my favorites (also the Flint).
I'll have to try the dig. I have the El Cap and Flint on my board at the moment.

Do you think having both (cap and dig) makes sense. As in it doesn't overlap too much?

Spent a good hour plus and couldn't quite get the Fractal to match the DIG. It's in the ballpark but can't figure out how to get the same repeats ping ponging. That DIG just sounds great from the get go.
I have no experience with the DIG but since it emulates early digital rack delays, it probably has a compander going on... Be sure to check that parameter in the fractal 😉

@Jarick I need to update this but I did some work trying to recreate the v1 DiG when I had it. Haven't compared to the v2 recently.

The eq and modulation can get close but figuring out how to get those cross feeds to hard pan like they do is outwitting me! Your dual delay video this week was incredibly educational though.

Okay I think I'm pretty close!

Strymon has a diagram in the manual:
https://www.strymon.net/manuals/DIG...IO_KUC_Rv4MMOqNKc0HRdvBQ-Oxd14jIzu9LuhIlAH9IO

They describe it as "serial ping pong". I messed around with a bunch of weird routing but actually just running two ping pong delays in line seems to work.

To do the 1/4 note and dotted 1/8, run the first delay as the shorter one (dotted 1/8) then run the second delay as the longer one (1/4). Change the "Spread" setting from 100% to -100% on the second one. This reverses the pans. Now it seems to ping pong with some cross feedback and generally stays out of the way of the center channel.

It's not exact, the original seems to work more like a multi tap delay where all the delays are moving between channels, but it's pretty close!

Here's a sound test flipping between the two:

And here's a link to a preset I loaded on Axe-Change if you want to download:

@2112 - I checked yours and had the same thought about a feedback send/return from a parallel path of delays, but looking at the diagram on the manual the feedback from delay 1 never goes to delay 2. Just delay 2 into delay 1 into output.

And thus concludes my four hour autistic journey lol

So here's the thing: The DIG plugin sounds great. It's modulation is especially on point.

I downloaded it, tried it out and was impressed by the sweet tones I was getting. I was already thinking "I need to buy this today!".

But then I opened up Valhalla Delay. I usually use the chrome tape model and it sounds excellent, but of course the DIG is modelling something different and I was enjoying that digital DIG vibe. So for a change, I opened up the Valhalla digital mode, tweaked a couple of settings and got an extrmeley satisfying lush stereo delay out of it that rivalled and perhaps tops the DIG.

Valhalla UI is easier to use too and you've also got every other kind of delay you could wish for e.g. BBD, tape etc.. It's cheaper too.

If you haven't tried Valhalla Delay and you're considering buying DIG, then you should definitely try Valhalla first, before making your purchase.

Just messed around with the Valhalla Delay, Ubermod, and Vintage Verb. KILLER sounding! These could easily do just about all the guitar related post-effects I need.

Great plugins. Check out the blog section of the website for some really cool deep dives into vintage fx units and digital procrssing history. Sean is a legend.

Yes I've just been poking around at them! I heard you and Troy talk about Valhalla on one of your podcasts and have been meaning to check them out for a while. Really impressed!
