Howdy all wishing ya'all a Happy Sunday and those attending the Metal Church
So after some testing between EB and NYXL strings (9.5-44) I can say for my preference it's the NYXL by a country mile
They sound better, feel better and keep their tone longer.
What chu all Strung up with these days ?

I've been using D'addario 11-52 on my tele, les paul and prs for about 4 years now.

I recently went down to 10.5-48 on my strat though because the 11s were too much sometimes. I tried going to 10s again but I'm so used to 11s that they felt like rubber bands. So far the 10.5s have been a good middle ground in that guitar and they feel like the 11s on my tele.

For years I've used D'Addario XL's, a few months ago tried the NYXL's, and that's what I'm running now - bonus that the sale is still going on.

NYXL's don't have as much ping when new as the XL's. I used to like the sound of new strings years ago - I prefer broken in strings more these days.

I would recommend if you like new string brightness go with GHS Boomers - inexpensive and very lively when new.

I find that you need to give a gauge change quite a while to get used to it. And only play the new gauge while you are doing it or you just go back.

Yeah probably, I know I'd have gotten used to 10s again eventually.

I don't know whether it's the bigger neck or frets on my tele but the 10.5s on the strat and the 11s on the telecaster feel like they have the same tension. My head knows they don't but they feel like they do. It's a good middle ground and works for me.

Stringjoy Signatures 10-52 on just about everything. I've got 10-46 on the Tyler which feel really nice though.

I'd never heard of stringjoy until about a month ago and since then I see them mentioned everywhere. I feel like they're stalking me.

I recently switched back from Elixirs to using non-coated strings again. I am currently using Pyramid strings (Nickel Steel 10-52) on all my guitars and am very happy with them.

Same I dont like the overly bright string ping of fresh new strings, i prefer the tone and feel after a day or 2

Standard XLs here as well. They pulled me in with those cool colored ends and kept me around with consistency and good pricing. I have tried Stringjoys recently and may be a convert, I like the options they have.

I actually don't like the colored ball ends - looks like a pre-schooler's toy selection.

I only have a sample of one for Stringjoy. To me they feel a little heavier for gauge from a resistance perspective, and the first string I've broken in well over a decade - Brand new set high E string on day 5. I did like the overall tone/sound - and custom set options are nice. But 1/2 gauge down to get the same feel of resistance fighting my fretting hand to XL's or especially NYXL's. Might have been one of those "off" sort of days for my hands.

I will add to my previous post, I don't mind new string ping as much with Bass strings - I prefer them a bit more fresh, likely a frequency thing.

I’ve become a big Stringjoy fan…
  • Stringjoy Broadways 10-46 on the LP and Strat, 10-46 Signatures on the Theatercaster
  • Stringjoy Foxwoods 12-54 on acoustics
  • Stringjoy Naturals 10-38 on mandolins
  • Stringjoy Signatures 45-130 on the J Bass
  • La Bella flatwounds 45-105 on the P bass
  • D’Addario EJ55 10-23 on banjos
  • Savarez Creation high tension with Cantiga basses on the MultiAC

Just checked some String Joys and well they are steep in my Neck of the woods including the 15.00% Tax that i need to pay

Bummer, for me they’re about the same price as NYXL’s.

Honestly, I like NYXL’s just as much as Stringjoy Signatures. I started using Stringjoy because I love round core pure nickel and nothing sounds better than those Broadways on my LP. Then I just switched from D’Addario NYXL to Signatures on the Theatercaster because it was convenient to just order them all from the same place and get bundle savings.

It matches the legos I used to block my Majesty’s trem (don’t let the trem block folks know this trick)

I’m still running EB Burly Slinky. I tried the NYXLs and I’m going to be honest, I forget why I took them off but i replaced them with Slinkys after about 3 weeks of not liking them.

I've been using NYXL's since they came out. I did not dig D'Addario's for some reason before them, but immediately switched after almost 20 years with Dean Markley Blue Steels. Man, I want to try a pack of Blue Steels again, I LOVED those strings for years. I seem to recall the NYXL's just having more of what I liked about the Blue Steels, particularly the pop and snap when they're new, but if I recall correctly, the NYXL's lasted a bit longer and had a bit more low end to them.

Yeah, I played Dean Markley Blue Steels for... IDK... maybe 20 years or even more, before I switched to Elixirs a couple of years ago. I always loved them for their stiffness (yes, I actually like stiffer strings), clarity und high output. However, in the last few years that I have used them, their quality has had some considerable fluctuations. Some sets of strings were already corroded when I opened the pack and in general they were no longer as durable as they used to be. I have no idea if they have got the quality problems under control in the meantime. Of course, nothing beats the Elixirs I've used in recent years in terms of longevity, but the Pryramid strings I'm currently using just sound much, much livelier, and so far they seem to last a surprisingly long time.
