Satchel's Rig Rundown, touring an AmpliFire 3

I bought a used AmpliFIREBOX and sold it on Reverb the same day. It was the fastest turnaround ever.

Also, Satchel's schtick gets old. I get that he's playing a character, but.....ugh.

Yeah, he is so NOT a comedian. That was tedious and awkward. 5 minutes on Rogaine. Really? :facepalm

Yeah, but he tries to be, which is what makes it really painful to watch.
Exactly. He takes these painful pauses, where it's obvious he's trying to think of something witty to say. He'd be better off just letting it flow, and every now and again, with the way he is, he'd come up with some funny sh!t. But the way he does it, and overdoes it..., it just misses most every time.

And sexual innuendo is fine; but he's vulgar. Like the comment about f*cking Valerie Bertonelli...., that was just wrong. :facepalm

Yeah I had the AA3 a couple times, and each time I did like the Marshall tones, and Fender stuff. Just hated the Mesa stuff. But the AmpliFIREBOX did nothing for me at all, which is weird.

I wonder if there's a difference in converters or quality? Because I liked the sound of the AA3 but the AFB was instant sell.

Yeah, his innuendos aren't innuendos.

On the humor bit, you've gotta be REALLY funny and have something to say. I've always found the SP approach to be "hey, if we all wear wigs and PRETEND to be over-the-top level misogynistic asshats and nothing more, we'll be funny and satirical, not just men being over the top level misogynistic asshats in bad wigs." As if "pretending" alone makes it satirical or worse, "ironic".

Regardless, making a joke about fucking Valerie Bertenelli is in awful taste period.

The first time I saw Satchel interviewed he actually seemed pretty funny and witty. Over the years it got a lot more cringey. No problem with the band doing its thing (basically like Spinal Tap for 80's hair metal), but IMO they probably should be a little more low key in interviews.

Some of their live on the microphone banter would have Madea bitch-slapping the piss out of them.

I agree that any joke/satire/parody eventually gets old if it is beaten to death for too long. Fuck, even KISS had to
take thew make up at some point.

I’ll take my normal role as being the odd man out, the humor still cracks me up a lot, especially when the whole band is onstage. That’s not to say I think everything is funny (even I eek’d a bit at the Valerie comment), but if they changed it up at this point and got PC with it….they wouldn’t be Steel Panther.

It comes off a lot better in a live environment. I listened to a podcast with the singer a while back and he did it out of character, mostly, he mentioned that they have some jokes they say regularly but a lot of it’s improvised and it’s part of the fun for them. You can tell that seeing them live as some stuff they simply couldn’t improvise.

And if ya meet those guys without the wigs and spandex, they’re just regular dudes and not making sex jokes. Met ‘em once at an airport and another time after the show. Really nice guys and actually, Satchel was the least talkative/outgoing both times. Not to the point I‘d say he was annoyed, but you very much tell he prefers keeping his character separate from his actual life.

Did you get up to his face and scream at the top of your lungs in your best Halford "NAILED TO THE GUNNNNNNNNN!"

Meh Kinda GIF by Cultura

Trying to recall the time I started playing music because it was about the yuks. :idk

I get that they have their "thing," and there is a place in the world for SP when it comes
to overtanned and artificially buxomed, middle-aged, bleach blondes contemplating their
next tanning session. Just not for me.

Oh, and can't wait to see them doing this at 70. That's going to be a riot.

Did anyone see the movie "Fear of a Black Hat?" That's another good parody of a genre (gansta rap). Probably couldn't get made today but really damn funny back in the day.

I can't think of one time in my life I was like, "I need to listen to that Steel Panther song again." :idk

Rather use that time for some old Van Halen, Extreme, Dokken, Ratt, or Skid Row.

Like here. This whole album slays. :headbang

I don't think people are taking Steel Panther as seriously as you think. Nobody's expecting them to actually make great music. They're like a super sized cover band.
