Rumor mill: John Mayer plugin coming soon?

What's even more phenomenal is how often they're able to reuse components and get people to pay for tweaked versions of the same amps and effects again and again. The ROI on their model development is exponential at this point.

Just to play devil's advocate here, I hope the irony isn't lost on you. The irony of you most likely owning literally 7 iterations of a tubescreamer or Les Paul, etc. Guitar gear is very much this way across the board. To be fair.

How is that any different from what anyone else is doing? They really aren't just tweaked versions. So not sure what you are referring too.
Also, they are a business. They make things people want to buy. They make money.

Jokes on all the haters, as soon as I told my wife I bought the plugin she told me to go upstairs and take off my clothes and tell Alexa to play Gravity

They really are tweaked versions by their own admission. When you look at the descriptions for the non-branded effects, a lot will have similar controls or say "this is using our Chorus/Delay/whatever engine".

They reuse the same "engines" on the Quad Cortex and Nano Cortex.

Surely you don't think a company that hasn't been able to fill out their promise launch effects list five years later is capable of making bespoke delay/reverb/modulation algorithms every few months for a new plugin?

I have quite a few of their plugins (Misha, Rabea, Petrucci, Asato, Nolly, Nameless, TK Imperial, and SLO). There certainly is some overlap (to put it lightly), but I don’t regret buying any of them.

Value for money at full price for each? Perhaps not. Great plugins at 50% off during their rather frequent sales? I think so.

I’ll probably pick up the Mayer in a future sale, but it’s not an insta-buy for me.

Not a Mayer or Dumble fan, although I definitely have huge respect for Mayer.

Honestly; having a guitar icon’s personal amp and effect sounds, as well as his cabs all mic’d up, in his own studio (which happens to be Henson/A&M) is pretty fucking cool.

$200 does feel a bit much, but I think we’re just more conditioned these days to expect plugins to cost nothing.

Plugins used to cost significantly more and there’s still some companies clinging on to 2003 pricing (MAAT sell a LP EQ for $600 still, Softube Weiss collection is pricey too). $200 is probably less than 1/5 of the day rate at Henson, let alone what all the other gear and combined knowledge are worth.

I think we’re just conditioned to expect things to be cheap - we moan about pedals and amps being over priced for what they are too. How much does a typical Strymon style pedal cost? How about a couple of IR packs? Or even 3 Nembrini amp models on sale is probably the best part of $120. They’ve priced it based on what they think people will be prepared to spend. I’m not particularly interested so i’ll wait for a good sale and see if it appeals then (unlikely but we’ll see….).

Shame they dumb(l)ed down the 3 amp blender. It's fixed, so it's not that flexible at all.
(but you can just run 3 separate instances of the plugin in a DAW, and blend manually that way instead.
But, yeah, that's a bit weird and condescending.

Probably for phase cohesion to match what they were going for, but who knows?

I mean, phase switches aren't rocket science.
But, perhaps it makes sense in their mind considering guitarists don't typically understand these things. :bag

You’d need 4 instances not counting room since they sum to a single cab.
