Flatter Radii for Flat Earthers!!

I love me a flatter radius for modern approaches to guitar..... but I also think letting vintage
appropriate specs be vintage appropriate specs is cool. It also doesn't hurt one's technique
to become fluent on a variety of different guitars with different specs.

When you get up to 16" it just feels like a plankety piece of plywood to my fingers. :idk
I think if you tried it on this you would only notice it by virtue of it actually working.🤣

Early explorers never travelled north of the fifth fret, it wasn't until the 1960s that the New World was discovered.

I fall in the camp of loving relic finishes. Lord knows I can't afford the real thing, so I buy what I can, and if it looks the part, awesome. If it looks absurdly overdone, that's cool too; I'm not trying to trick anyone that its the real deal. The best part of the relic finish is I don't need a guitar stand at shows, I don't lament getting a new ding when I dance into a mic stand, and they just feel more like home in my hands. A few of mine...

People complain about the cost of a Murphy Lab but actually they are Gibsons best ever instrument.
They are far better than most originals to play and sound as good as all but the best examples.
Original 59 £300k MurphyLab £8k .
If you spend Murphy money on a vintage guitar you won’t find it easy to get anything good. You are also going to need to be an expert not to get ripped off. The Murphy comes with certification and is a guaranteed safe bet. Same applies with Fender custom shop. You are far better off buying one of these than navigating the mine field of charlatans selling “ player” grade vintage.
Don’t start me on “ memorabilia “ guitars and limited editions.
If you can afford a proper original in good condition and can be sure it’s all correct it’s definitely a solid investment and a pleasure to have but not many people have that luxury .
Remember the 64 Tele that I had in that prompted me to write this;

Mostly repro or substandard player grade parts with a nice set of original pickups. You could have a master build custom shop for the same or less money. I prefer the relic.

This is what my 1991 Strat looks like after having been played and gigged for 35 years.

When the Fender Custom Shop first started making relics back in the '90s I went into Sam Ash on 48th Street and played one. It was an absolutely wonderful guitar guitar and I could definitely see why someone would want it.

Two sides of the same coin I guess but for me personally, I prefer guitars that look like they were well cared for.

This is how a guitar looks after 35 years that was painted in plasticised modern 2k and will stay basically unchanged. Lacquer isn’t the same. Look at the sunburst Strat on the Layla album it’s less than 15 years old. The huge advantage of old finishes was how thin and how hard they were. Both those attributes are hugely valuable in a musical instrument. Thick durable material is only good on a table.

Actually also the basic 96 relic from Fender did actually look like a 55 Strat would have if it was played and looked after.

Starting the rub throughs and hand polishing. I won’t be able to check or add other marks before the lacquer hardens.

It has the necessary layers in order to produce the final appearance of an original.

It looks like a crap paint job atm but when it comes together it will look right ( hopefully 🤣).

Good job the seller said this is a tribute. I thought it was Rory's actual strat for a minute there. Quality relic work like this can only be from the hands of a master.
