When someone that understands what the 11R is and that has a paid update that's known to be no longer for sale anywhere suggests me getting the software (because in context that was the thing we were talking about) from a third party, what would you imagine?
Except that no one suggested you to do this. What I suggested is buy an updated unit (and try to sell your old one to recover part of the cost.)
Sometimes when dealing with old digital gear, that is not longer supported, that's the solution. A few months ago, I had to buy another Lexicon LXP-5 for my practice room PA because my old one failed and the part I needed was no longer available. Not for a moment I thought "oh that's not fair, I might as well just steal one". You seem to think that since your issue is software related, it's different.
It's not different.
