Technically, maybe, unless this third party got the item from stealing/piracy in the first place - you never clarified.

Now, to suggest someone to buy a used software updater for my hardware is a bit strange still.

It's like one guy got crazy with the price on Facebook market and everyone just followed suit. So to part with mine apparently I would have to sell it darn cheap to be actually able to sell it and then pay the crazy money everyone is asking for another one

It's very easy to ask the seller to check the firmware number before you purchase it. EDIT > Scroll down to firmware version > select. Firmware 2.X only came with the expansion pack so if it's 2.x, you're good. I haven't had one in 10 years and I still remember this lol

The 11R update was never free. It was $99, I think, until they discontinued it.

Today if you have an older model, find one that's been updated. That should be relatively easy to find for about $200. Then sell your old one for $100-150 and at the end you have an updated unit for about $100 out of pocket i.e. SAME as the cost of the original upgrade, give or take a few $

If you can't do that for whatever reason, then maybe it's time to move to a new model, which is quite frankly to be expected with digital gear.

Or you can still just keep using your old one, a lot of the original models still sound good, especially the Marshall models.

Most importantly, none of this is a good reason to go crack/steal shit.

Actually, no. Not technically. A 3rd party user (IE: a consumer) is not the target when it comes to legal tests for piracy. If the consumer merely purchased a product without any knowledge of the inner details, then they cannot be held responsible at all.

Let's say I create a drum library using samples I stole off a competitor. A customer buys it. Then I'm taken to court for my theft ... the user simply has nothing to do with that scenario, and will not be punished in any way. Because legally, they simply did nothing wrong.

I know you want to keep playing the semantic motte-and-bailey game. But you simply do not know what you are talking about, on any level.

It's pretty clear you can't get it from the manufacturer or any dealer. Buy a used copy of the software updater? Is it just me that thinks this sounds silly?
