Plugin Piracy Thread

No.

Explain how these two direct quotes from you don't contradict each other:

*in direct response to my post referring specifically to software
Getting from a third party =/= stealing. I was talking about buying used software/hardware. I explained this several times already. Try to re-read the thread over and over until it clicks. If it still doesn't, oh well. At this point, you're just flailing.

Technically, maybe, unless this third party got the item from stealing/piracy in the first place - you never clarified.

Now, to suggest someone to buy a used software updater for my hardware is a bit strange still.

On the 11r note; it's amazing how many people selling them have no idea whether they have the expansion pack installed or not.

I got mine pretty cheap, I checked before. Now for whatever reason the prices got unreasonably high even though nobody seems to be moving them. It's weird. It's like one guy got crazy with the price on Facebook market and everyone just followed suit. So to part with mine apparently I would have to sell it darn cheap to be actually able to sell it and then pay the crazy money everyone is asking for another one :facepalm

There are a few on Reverb for like $120-150ish? None of these sellers knew what they had. "It's boxed up and ready to go but I have no actual information on it!" :hmm:rofl

It's very easy to ask the seller to check the firmware number before you purchase it. EDIT > Scroll down to firmware version > select. Firmware 2.X only came with the expansion pack so if it's 2.x, you're good. I haven't had one in 10 years and I still remember this lol

The 11R update was never free. It was $99, I think, until they discontinued it.

Today if you have an older model, find one that's been updated. That should be relatively easy to find for about $200. Then sell your old one for $100-150 and at the end you have an updated unit for about $100 out of pocket i.e. SAME as the cost of the original upgrade, give or take a few $

If you can't do that for whatever reason, then maybe it's time to move to a new model, which is quite frankly to be expected with digital gear.

Or you can still just keep using your old one, a lot of the original models still sound good, especially the Marshall models.

Most importantly, none of this is a good reason to go crack/steal shit.

Actually, no. Not technically. A 3rd party user (IE: a consumer) is not the target when it comes to legal tests for piracy. If the consumer merely purchased a product without any knowledge of the inner details, then they cannot be held responsible at all.

Let's say I create a drum library using samples I stole off a competitor. A customer buys it. Then I'm taken to court for my theft ... the user simply has nothing to do with that scenario, and will not be punished in any way. Because legally, they simply did nothing wrong.

I know you want to keep playing the semantic motte-and-bailey game. But you simply do not know what you are talking about, on any level.

I really liked mine back in the day. I'd be very interested to give one a go even for nostalgia sake?

When someone that understands what the 11R is and that has a paid update that's known to be no longer for sale anywhere suggests me getting the software (because in context that was the thing we were talking about) from a third party, what would you imagine?

It's pretty clear you can't get it from the manufacturer or any dealer. Buy a used copy of the software updater? Is it just me that thinks this sounds silly?

I keep complaining about people making assumptions, I guess this is one is on me, but what else to think if not arguably illegal means?

And always has to end on an insult. Why is that? You've said some pretty flat out wrong stuff and I didn't call you anything for it other than pointing out the mistake. Why just not try to act in good faith? Sure, go at it if I'm wrong, I'm here for it, but why being rude?

Where did he insult you? Usually he does it with more panache.

Even if I did insult you - which I didn't in that specific post - I simply don't care. Yes, I sometimes use insults. I don't give a toss.

On the topic of the 11 Rack - it literally has NOTHING to do with the thread topic. You're muddying the waters to try and obfuscate your defense of piracy, and I'm simply not tolerating it.

You are fundamentally misinformed and flat out WRONG about everything you've been saying.

Cool. I'll remain being civil if it's all the same to you.

Nuance is not always easy or comfortable, but so is the world.

I just gave a single example, even if I admit not being 100% happy with it, where I think cracking copyright material is justified - not arguing it's legal - but I think it's justified. That's all.

You seem to think I'm using that defend piracy as a whole. In a more extreme case, it's like saying I'm pro stealing because I wouldn't hold stealing food against someone starving. Again, just lack of nuance. I never have. If you can quote me saying that maybe?

Just repeating these silly hyperboles is no argument. Where's the argument?

You think you're offering nuance.

You're not.

You're muddying the waters and deflecting.

I've given you plenty of arguments. You've not contended with a single one of them.

I do not agree that cracking the Eleven Rack firmware update is morally justified.
