I’ll pop in for a little update.
My second midi captain shat the bed (switch came off).
Same exact thing happened with the first one (they replaced it)
This one lived a longer life, about 1,5 years, first one died after 7 months of use.
Edit: This one also died after 7-8 months, it seems i don’t know how to count

I dont know how to fix it, it doesn’t have any threads to screw back in, not sure how it’s attatched. With the last one I asked if the switches are easily replacable and they said no. I should make sure and open it up though, maybe it’s easy.

It's been a while since I've busted out the MIDI Cap'n. A fellow MC user from across the world found me on Facebook (after seeing this thread) to ask me some setup questions. Great timing, as I plan to attempt to use it with my newly-acquired AFX3.
Trying to wrap my head again around Super Mode, I've noticed a few bugs when attempting to navigate through the multiple pages with long presses from the UP/DWN switches - specifically when going UP from PAGE 18 to PAGE 0 which locks up the device and gives me this screen:
this has also happened sporadically when navigating through other pages, but the behavior isn't consistent -- it just seems to happen sometimes.
There also seems to be a pre-programmed Page UP/DWN coding that you (at least I) can't configure. This interferes with anything that you might also program to these switches.
For example: I have a CC assigned to the short-press function of the UP switch that activates the Axe3's tuner. When I hold the UP switch to change pages, the tuner activates.
Another example: I have a CC assigned to the short-press function of the DWN switch that allows me to go back 1 scene on the AF3, but when I long press the DWN switch to navigate to another page of the MIDI Cap, my Axe scene changes.
These behaviors make no sense because you're supposed to be able to assign functions to those UP/DWN switches as @notbob stated previously.
I also forgot how bad the lag is with my Dunlop MVP. Is it any different when using Paint Audio's own expression pedals. @mbenigni ? @Jaji ?

I'm afraid it's the same with any expression pedal. (The circuits are very similar if not identical.) I don't know whether the MIDI Captain is specifically to blame, or whether this is common to all MIDI CC implementations (in absence of a smoothing algorithm at the receiving end.) To complicate matters a little further, I'm almost always running my MIDI Captain over a wireless dongle, which will inevitably add a little latency/ staircasing of its own.

In the above video I posted, I compared the expression pedal glide of the MC with and without the MIDI Mate to the DMC.micro. The micro does not step at all, just a tad but of latency. I'm guessing it's the MC.

Mr. Wilson was pretty responsive at first. Either he has gotten too "busy" or gave us the bait and switch. I had more hope in the beginning, any future fixes to the known issues would be a happy surprise at this point.

I read the MC now accepts MIDI cc and pc, is this true? I would like to use a Midi Captain Duo to page up and page down the Midi Captain Super Mode page, basically replace the two far right buttons, but cannot find a list of the cc or pc numbers. Is there a list or does anyone know which command, I'm guess a pc, number?
Edit: I may have found it after digging around for a copy of the printed Super Mode guide

Hello everyone. I've been using the MIDI Captain for a while to control a Tonex pedal. I use the super mode mainly to send various parameter CC messages, and I recently got an M-Audio expression pedal to control the amp gain.
I've found that randomly, the CC value linked to the expression pedal freezes, and I'm forced to restart the MIDI Captain to get it working again. I also created the same type of CC on a switch on the controller, which cycles through gain steps on the same switch, and it has never given me any problems, whereas with the expression pedal it sometimes freezes.
Has anyone else had this problem?

I think you're right about this. My BOSS EV-1-WL is much smoother than a conventional expression pedal connected to a (wireless) MIDI Captain.
Yes, midi captain expression pedals are laggy. M-vave controllers with a modulation wheels are laggy too sometimes (with arp mode).

Has anyone tested MIDI Captain with expression pedal over a MIDI cable? I'm wondering whether it's a stepping problem in the MC itself, or whether it's the implementation of the wireless to wireless dongle protocol.
There is an option to install a custom firmware with pySwitch. Google it.
It allows to send incoming midi to the unit to control leds, screen. Mine now shows looper states, play head, fx states.

I just ordered a Paint Audio MIDI Captain MINI 6 Foot Controller to use with my polyend mess and polyend step for now.
Looks like it's pretty good and very nice price of only $89 and seems to do quite a lot that morningstar mc6 does. Anyone liking it, is it hard to learn/use?

To use it well you will need to code with pySwitch.
It has no support from paint audio.
It has very low memory/ram.
Slow processor.
Wicked wireless with no support on pySwitch.
Worst battery support. No options to install better one.
So the product is very bad.
But for this price it is the best one on the market.
