Heaviest on the bottom... More stable.

You can control how stable you set up the rack case. The amount of heat cooking directly under my main signal processor is what would worry me more.

Full heatsink on each side and the entire top punched for ventilation. The Axe is effectively trapping all of the heat from being able to rise off of the amp. Not good imo.

the lack of ventilation in general would be the bigger concern.

Pretty sure James never takes the poweramp much past idle, though, so doubt heat is too much of a concern.

Always wondered why rack cases didn't have vent slots punched into them extensively on all 4 faces. But at least with the amp on top there's a small gap above it for some convection flow.

Rackmount amps are made to be in a rack. There isn't much airflow inside a rack even if it's in a rack by itself. Honestly I thought @James Freeman would want something better than a Behringer power amp for his modelers.
