NGD: 1973 Gibson Les Paul Custom

Great but I would be changing that bridge. It’s not a Schaller Nashville it is a budget version. You may be able to just screw in a real Nashville studs set in and drop it on but check.

Nah, I honestly don't want to touch it. It's one of the best guitars I've ever played, possibly the best . It's a good lesson for me in that sometimes this stuff just doesn't matter.

Just checking in that this Custom has been my new #1 ever since I got it.

Best guitar for hard rock/classic rock I’ve ever played and the pickups are to die for, there’s magic in them T-Tops unlike any I’ve ever owned. Neck pickup is the sweetest, least boomy, with the most clarity, and the bridge is loaded with mids and crunchy high end. Also gets all sorts of amazing musical feedback with some gain and delay in the loop.

And such a comfortable guitar at gigs, I can play it all night with no problems.

I did order a Faber ABR-style bridge that supposedly fits on the Nashville posts, but when it got here I’d lost the desire to mess with anything, the guitar is just so damn great and the setup from Folkway is :chef. I may have them put it on, if it fits, when it’s ready for another setup. But at the same time, as mentioned, I’m mostly “why bother” because the guitar is killer as-is. Would be for looks and to have saddles that are less worn-down, but I don’t really care about either, so we’ll see.

When I saw the thread pop up I went back and looked at the pics.....outside of ensuring I'm going to play my Edwards in a couple minutes, it's really making me want to get gold covers back on it ASAP.

I can just imagine this with a cranked Electra Dyne....

Yes, it’s got an insanely sweet crunch tone on the bridge with the Dyne. Definitely dreamy! lol

How did the gig go? Got any audio clips?

That's a really cool looking guitar, glad you've bonded with it.

Hey, sorry I missed this, so I’ll answer almost a year later. :grin

The gig went great and I’ve done quite a few more with it. I just can’t get enough of this guitar.

I’m now all-in and sold my R9, just wasn’t playing that one at all and there’s no denying that this guitar just eats it for breakfast.

Aside from the comfort and playability of the neck, especially with the refret having been done with bigger frets, these T-top pickups are just crazy good and continue to amaze me with their clarity and overall perfect crunchiness + openness. Without a doubt the best humbucker I’ve ever played, bar none. The neck pick up is so sweet and clear, with none of that boominess I’ve had in others. It could almost pass for a Strat neck pickup, although the scale difference still gives it that Gibson thing overall.

Anyway, I’m probably repeating myself from earlier in the thread, but still loving this LP and it’s my #1 from now until maybe the day I die, lol. I do have a couple of short video clips. Maybe I’ll throw them up at some point.

Also, I may replace the super worn-in bridge, but I’m also afraid to mess with anything because it’s so killer as-is.

With this LP and my MKVII + Trad 4x12 or Recto 2x12, I am getting the best tones I’ve ever had ( Crunch, Clean, IIB are my go-to’s), as well.

FWIW the Norlins [had a few] have their share of troubles.

I've got two Norlins - an '81 Custom and an '82 Standard, and they're both pretty excellent guitars. (I've also got a '71 SG, but that one's not so excellent.)

Despite the horror stories about Norlins, a few good ones got through.
