Next generation Tonex hardware [speculation thread]

Would being able to capture using the new unit be a step forward?

That depends on what it would add to the cost and the quality of the hardware they use. It would definitely make things easier, but its not going to work for a Tonex One size device, or anything in that price point.

It would also be prohibitively expensive. ToneX models need beefy CPUs to process; consumer DSPs will just not cut it.

Yeah I don't personally see a need to process caps on the pedal hardware. Give me a workflow where I can ship it to a computer. If I need an instantaneous capture I've already made a series of bad decisions and should be drowned in my own tears.

Oh, I was assuming the files would be captured on the device, or using the device as an interface, but processing somewhere else. The device would need a hi-z reamp out, a line in, and a mic in with pre-amp for full captures. That wouldn't be too pricey, but Tonex lives at the lower end of the price spectrum, so even $20 more could be a tough sell.

Yeah that's what I meant.

I have a Tonex One as an alternative on my main board and a Tonex pedal as the main amp sim on a smaller board, and I can definitely see the appeal of IK delivering both Tonex hardware units at the price points they do.

But if they were to release a new flagship hardware unit - especially if it was meant to be the culmination of the development of both Tonex and AmpliTube - I’d want IK to make the best damn unit they can, a product that was meant to actually compete with Line 6’s Stadium line and Fractal’s products—even if it means they have to raise the price. (IK would probably still have to be priced lower to be competitive though, as I guess both Stadium and current and potential next gen products from Fractal would be objectively better/higher quality products.)

The one thing that is IK's achilles heel is usability. Tonex is still kinda crap in this regard whether it's hardware or software.

So I have low expectation for any complex modeler from them. Amplitube + Tonex in a hardware device seems like a pretty obvious route for them to take...but that sort of thing is already done by e.g the Hotone Ampero 2. The only thing that would change is that Tonex captures are better.

I don't see them chasing the flagship modelers, but the midrange market.
