Next Gen Fractal Speculation Thread

,
I don’t hear Fractal fans here arguing anything. Just you trolling and trying to start an argument.

No one cares.
Ah yes, the trolling cop out. Apparently having a debate now is trolling? You obviously care

I currently own an FM9T, VP4 and have owned Axe 2, Axe 3 turbo, FX8 and FM3 so am I a troll? or am I a potential customer that maybe should also have a valid opinion?

Edit - oh ya, I even own the fractal reverb plugin and bought multiple dyna cab packs for cab-lab 4 and had an FC6 and FC12 when I had the Axe3

There’s nothing quite like spring cleaning.

Priority one in my estimation should be "increase on-device storage capacity by a factor of 10 at the minimum." Most of the low-hanging-fruit seems to be storage related. Dynacabs, on-device-block-library, sets/songs, looper, etc...

One disadvantage a new Fractal product will have compared to the Helix Stadium here in Europe is the considerable but questionable G66 markup.

My suspicion is that he wants the extra power to do modeling approaches that require more dsp than his current methodology.

Speak for yourself though. I can max out an fm9 turbo without breaking a sweat. I’d have no problem maxing out a 3 either….

How much dsp do I need? 20% more than <insert device> has. Always…

Yeah, once you start using two reverb blocks, and all the channels in each block, it's not THAT hard to the current generation stuff breathing a little hard. Even without getting wild with number of blocks. BUT, its also not that hard to be a liiiiiiittle intelligent about the way you build presets and never have to worry about it, too.

At this point, I've got my Fractal stuff dialed in to the point that its going to have to take one helluva firmware update to get me to bother...so new hardware that I'd have to shell money out for and learn from scratch is even less enticing.

When I first started down the "not-your-POD2.0" modeler route -- Atomic A3 ->Helix LT -> Atomic Firebox w/ pedals -> Kemper -> Amps -> HX Stomp -> Ax8 -> FM3 -> Helix Rack -> Axe Fx III (Jesus help me) I was having at least as much fun playing WITH the devices as I was playing through them. At this point, I'm ALL tapped out on having fun playing with the devices just to have fun playing with them and seeing what kind of rigs can be built/sounds can be created.

The III over the FM3 was mostly about making sure I was getting all the firmware updates as fast as possible; having two reverb blocks; and having the most stable of the Fractal platforms. If I find myself needing to buy into a new Fractal platform...I'd be VERY surprised if the flagship made sense anymore given where prices are headed. They are likely to be in a range that makes "fuck it, just get the best and have a blast" a lot harder -- there's a lot more caution getting thrown into the wind when the rack unit itself is likely $2500 or northwards.

I’m still expecting a VA4 to complete that product category.

It’s anyone’s guess where Fractal will go next. They’ve always focused on their algorithms, but I could see them shifting gears and rolling out a polished new UI with all of the features folks have been asking for.

The FM3 works well for me, but I’d love Axe-FX III-level performance and a big storage upgrade to handle dozens, if not hundreds, of Cab Lab 4-quality DynaCabs.

Paid DynaCab packs for the hardware seems like an obvious move—basically DLC they could cash in on. I’d probably buy several myself if they were available on-device.

Extra expression pedal/switch inputs would be great. S/PDIF in and out for adding something like a VP4 in the loop without latency would be a nice addition.

On-device Blocks Library access is a must. It’s a no-brainer.

Insert cliché statement about living in the golden age of guitar gear

Unfortunately I think $2500 is optimistic. I wouldn’t be shocked if a new flagship is closer to $2999 US.

With how good the III is I would truly be hard pressed to have a strong desire for a IV. I know the UI isn't great but Ive never had a large issue with it ......I even use the front panel!
Exactly how I feel. Heck, lately I've been staying on the same scene in my favorite preset.

Now if they added a function to control the metronome w/ an LFO, so I could set it to gradually increase the tempo, at my chosen rate...

I wanna see next gen units throw as much DSP as possible towards reverb to make the Bricasti obsolete. Although the current reverbs are pretty crazy on the III, Studio C especially.

I know some people are using the III as outboard effects for mixing but it'd be cool to see what would happen if they'd double down on that. We're at the point of increasingly diminished returns for amp modeling so I think the future will mainly focus on changes in literally any other area.
