Next up is a new box (not any replacement for Helix/HX), […]
Nope. It’s a fairly obvious box for us to make, with a really fun twist that will have a lot of people asking “when is [that really fun twist] coming to Helix?!”

Will preface those comments with “it might not.”
Come On Ok GIF

My guesses:
- HX Mod Stomp (similar to Strymon Mobius, Boss MD-200/500, IK X-Vibe etc.)
- Metallurgy Stomp (similar to Strymon Iridium, UA UAFX line)
- Line 6 HX audio interface (unlikely)

The first thought to cross my mind was an amp sim unit with capturing capabilities a la ToneX ("HX Amps"), but I guess a (board-friendly?) power amp & modeler with various voicings (flat, solid-state, different power tubes) and lots of tweaking options is much more likely.

Also, I guess it's safe to say a "box" is not a rack device.

Priced just competitively enough, this could blow expensive tube competitors out of the water (except maybe for tube aficionados).

If that's the case, I can't wait to see a good amount of A/B blind test videos dropping on YouTube.

The whole “it will have a lot of people asking ‘when is [that really fun twist] coming to Helix?!’ thing has me stumped.

I’m guessing it’s a completely new product category like a vocal processor, á la TC-Helicon or the aforementioned profiler/capture device (doubtful).

Whatever it is, it’ll be something that will be viewed as feature that could potentially be added to the Helix via firmware.

I was just thinking, if that fun twist is power amp modeling and the box is a SS power amp with tube power amp modeling, does that mean Helix might not get standalone power amp sims after all?

Maybe we don't want it to be a tube-modeling power amp like that of some kind then?

Given Yamaha’s ownership of Line6 and their long history of amplification, a power amp is definitely a possibility.

Their own amp-only small pedal with 3 models built into it; a Fender, a JCM800, and a high-gain head, ala Strymon Iridium.

The "fun twist" has me stumped as well. But since people will be asking for it in Helix, it is likely to be something digital.

Maybe a cab sim box in the vein of Two Notes Cab M but with a better user interface, more capable cab sims than Helix?

Or a successor to the M5/M9 multifx unit, cheaper and smaller than the HX Effects? Not sure if Line6 even wants to play in that area.

Hmm, this would probably sell easily, but I'd guess it's unlikely.

L6 being L6, I'm counting on them releasing something at least somewhat original. ;)

"Fairly obvious product for us to make" would point that it's not something new, but potentially with an interesting implementation.

At first I was thinking maybe they will resurrect another product in the 4 series fx but I don't think anything but the DL4 has any real following.
