Got this from the Yamaha store in London - I've not heard of any other retail customers getting one yet, so I could be the first!

A little warning to anyone who gets one (and a note to @Digital Igloo) - when I plugged it in and fired up the HX One Librarian app, it alerted me to the 3.70 update, which was great.

What was a little worrying though was having downloaded the new firmware and pressed update, the pedal "looked" like it had switched off completely - no lights on the pedal and the screen was dark.

Fortunately, the update progress bar continued to move and when it got to the end, the pedal rebooted into 3.70, but it was a little worrying for a while, and I could definitely see some users unplugging it from the mains and powering it up again whilst the update was still in progress.

I was going to take a picture but by the time I'd got my phone ready, the update had finished.

Oh damn! You got it already? You might be the first.

Yeah, it's dumb that the screen goes dark when updating. We plan on fixing that. It is mentioned in the Release Notes, however (emphasis mine):

Updating HX One
  1. Download and install HX One Librarian:
  2. Connect HX One to your computer via USB, launch HX One Librarian, and make sure you're signed in.
  3. IMPORTANT! If you've created any user model defaults you want to keep, you MUST back everything up before updating to 3.70! At the bottom of the window, click BACKUP. Choose the name and location of your backup, and click Save.
  4. Once you've successfully backed everything up, click the Update (cloud) icon in the upper right corner. Follow the instructions to update HX One's firmware. NOTE: While updating, HX One's screen and LEDs will go dark. This is normal.
  5. Power down HX One and while pressing and holding both the EFFECTS knob and the HOME button, power HX One back on. The screen will briefly read "Resetting Defaults..."
  6. OPTIONAL: If you wish to restore from a backup file, click RESTORE in the lower right corner of HX One Librarian, navigate to your saved backup, and click Open.

I'm such an HX veteran, naturally I didn't get that far down the release notes... (my bad!)

As you alluded too though, it does really need to show some signs of life during the update process.

Question for you though: will the HX One give the user a discount on Helix Native?

I'm already a Native owner, and have two other qualifying products I could use if I needed more licenses, but I do think the value proposition of the HX One increases dramatically if it provided a discount on Helix Native.

The rule of any detailed instructions is that you put the really important thing as its own paragraph in cat size letters.

Given the HX One is effectively a single-effect HX FX with variable input impedance and flux (and missing a handful of things), I don't see there's a lot of point "reviewing" this from a tone perspective, but one thing I think I must point out is the build quality - it feels *extremely* premium.

My UA Dream 65 is a pedal that exudes quality, and I think the HX One feels even more premium than that.

Even the baseplate is metal, and overall comes over as something that should cost more than it does, and that's before you take into consideration what it actually can do.
