New amp; inbound. FINALLY \M/

I'm not really asking for suggestions, tbh. I am highly self-suggestable as it is [...]
You don't need to ask. We will give you recommendations whether you want them or not.
[...] The perfect Marshall to me at this point would be a modern JVM with just the OD channel with Badlander level of noise (aka barely any) and a loop that played nice immediately. I wonder how doable that would be?
You have just described exactly the amp that I have already recommended without being asked - the ENGL Artist Edition.

This amp is also :wat in that it had 14 channels yet essentially forces you to use presets if you switch back and forth between modes. Am I insane? Why wouldn't it recognize the master setting when you switch between modes? Jesus christ.

I'll never own an Engl. Too much $ here and nothing about them speak to me. I wanted a Fireball back in the HC days. The more I futz with amps the more I realize I like either DUMB single channel thought processes or Mesa Boogies. Fractal is for when I am wanting to overcomplicate things :pickle

I honestly feel like it's the type of channels that need VOLUME to get gain? Tbf; I was still playing through the Suhr and my IR so that isn't a 1:1 to playing through a real speaker.

I would say that 95% of the time I have spent with my 205 has been at band rehearsals, where the volume is up pretty good. For the most part I live on the clean channel orange and red modes and use the drive blocks in the FM9 to push them when I need more onions.

Single channel amps, or Mesas that behave like multiple single channel amps is for me. Except you know, I don't own amps anymore, so there's that. :D

It should remember the settings switching between modes. Do you have the footswitch?

So I got the power amp insert loop (serial) to work with the FM3. 18db pad on the FM3 input, +4 on the output. I want a mode switching amp WITHOUT PRESETS. I'm about to do my first "mod" and pull the CMOS battery or whatever the fuck it is that remembers the wrong goddamn settings in this fucking amp :rofl

I have the footswitch @SillyOctpuss . I can see someone in 2008 LOVING this, oblivious of modelers. But goddamn this is not where I want to get my overcomplication fix!

The amp should remember what the settings were the last time you used each mode. Does it not do that?

I know I am dramatic. It could be the lack of sandwiches talking but this amp is making me super irrational the more I use it :rofl

It seems like it does; but I don't want that. I want a dumb, fucking face-ripping M style amp (without a waterfall in the background) that sounds like orange and/or red mode on the OD channel with a loop option that isn't weird.

The amp experience for me = I don't want to read a midi manual or presets or fx loop states or onboard reverb. None of this. I didn't realize this amp was so hard coded to it being "packed full of functionality" vs. "hey here's where the fucking amp knobs are set, switch back and forth between modes and you're golden". That's on me and I am dead wrong on this but this is where this particular amp "journey" has taken me. Have I mentioned OD tones are GODLIKE?

At this point; it is 100% working as designed but I am so wrapped up in trying to "learn how it works" and that process is for modeling; not blasting shitty death metal riffs through a 100 watt guitar amp.

@JiveTurkey if i recall were you not looking at this beast ?
I think @2112 did demo a while back as well
its only 50 Watts but cant get more simple and aggressive something about face melting you often mention :grin

This is kinda why I want to mod an Origin 50 one day and see how that goes.

First congrats on the new amp! I’m a classic over complicator. The digital world is way easier for over complicating so I much prefer them for the stupid stuff I come up with. It’s way easier than analog gear in that situation for sure. Some hybrid rigs I’ve done… I’m like wtf am I doing? It’s always fun the first time you plug in and you’re internally betting with yourself on the odds of actually getting sound right off the bat. 😂

On the HC days thing… amps were cheaper and people talked so much funny shit that is now taboo on the forums… ahhh the good ol’ days.

You’re overthinking this a bit. The JVM only remembers very basic things: loop engaged/disengaged, reverb on/bypassed, which master volume is active. Not much beyond that. I use exactly six MIDI PC commands-one for each mode. The series/parallel loop is always bypassed, as is the reverb. I also only use one master volume to keep it simple.
