NDSP Quad Cortex

Non-negotiables for me:
  • Able to use the device fully without a computer or a phone app (outside maybe updates or IR loading)
  • Needs rotary knobs to adjust parameters because using only a touch screen sucks
  • Has all the amps/effects of the full unit (downscaled DSP is okay but missing lots of models is a nope)
  • 6+ amp/effect blocks in the signal chain
  • No pay-to-play expansion upgrade bullshit
  • Release the fucking product when you announce it
The Stadium touchscreen is phenomenal. This will have to come at it hard to match that particular experience.

Am I interested in this particular product? No, because it's the same price as a used QC. At $1000 new I'd be tempted for sure.

Would I be interested in a Fractal version of this product? That's a trick question because it would necessitate a complete overhaul of the Fractal UI. Maybe yes, maybe no.

Honestly I was looking hard at the AM4 because the idea of a simpler UI was very intriguing especially for a compact device that's just outside of fun money pricing. But I ended up with an FM9 because I knew the limitations would immediately drive me nuts.

Stadium also has eight (!!!) parameter knobs which is amazing. I haven't used it yet but I'm sure the UI is amazing.

I had the Headrush MX5 and Gigboard and only having the touchscreen with one knob really sucked. I'm guessing the Mini QC has four rotary switch knobs which is probably workable, like the HX Stomp has three parameter knobs.

That would be the one thing I miss on the Stadium. If I had to pick something? Is just the onboard experience of effortlessly tooling around on that touch screen.

I haven’t had the stadium, but the QC does give you that experience 💯
Yeah from all I've heard the QC touchscreen isn't near as good. Not sure. At the end of the day; FAS sounds are where it's at; so the superficial joy of going "WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEH THIS IS SO FUN!" gets trumped with "WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEH THIS BOOGIE MODEL HAS ME SOILING MYSELF" all day, every day.

That’s why I got my amp connected to my Suhr 😎

I already found something I like better than my AXE-FX III.

4.0 news:

My take:

  • Good on them for continually adding reverbs. Definitely has been one of the weaker spots of the unit. That being said....
  • The promised "ambient" reverbs from the launch announcement still are nowhere to be seen and were probably only ever just hallucinations of their copywriter and/or Doug Castro.
  • They got to 4.0 - a major milestone and progress marker - and added ZERO amps? Like TINA is right there, and they still are the slowest amp modeling company in existence?!?!

Personally I don’t need any new amp models. There are plenty of good ones in there and tons of good captures. There’s not really many amp tones you can’t already get for it. YMMV

That's fine, and I probably wouldn't personally need more either. That being said, they are the ones who made a big stink over having the fastest, most automated capability amp modeling capacity EVER.

Thanks for the link!

Honestly the Gig View toggle/freeze is a great add, thanks to Steve Sterlacci who's been calling it out as a request for a while (I think that's what this is doing, right?)

The new reverbs seem like good adds too, more is more when it comes to reverbs.

But at this point they've had maybe one amp in the last year or more? It's been pretty weak development for sure.
