NDSP Quad Cortex

Hm, there hasn‘t been a QC development update since November. I wonder what‘s coming up next.
Ya they have slipped back into that no communication mode which is unfortunate but usually means they have nothing coming soon
Because you know they would be hyping if they could
As Laxu said 2024 was mostly about Pcom and most of 2025 will be as well

They were running 2 releases every 6 months but they have missed that target w Nolly
As March is month 8

I'm not sure they have anything to communicate. They posted the PCOM order of releases for the next 3 firmwares.

The less said about TINA, the better.

Aside from X plugin updates or the odd Nano firmware....what else do they have going on?

Honestly, I wish they did have more. Usability improvements, more effects etc. Even though I don't own the QC, I still would like to see it succeed as a product.

To me the thing they should achieve this year is more effects options for the Nano Cortex. As it is, it's IMO poor value when cheaper, but larger boxes run circles around it in usability and functionality.

For the QC, I think this will be a very disappointing year for owners if it's nothing but plugin ports.

I've said in the past that the QC was at risk of becoming the "Nintendo Wii-U" of modelers - the product that arrived between generations and ended up being surpassed by next gen Line6 or Fractal. I just got my timeline totally wrong, and did not anticipate that it would be the cheaper boxes from Asian manufacturers that are nipping at its heels at a fraction of the cost.

is this an axe vs QC thread?

I think FAS people start talking about FAS things because nothing happens at QC apart from not even being able to do the things promised at launch and giving everyone’s WiFi access away non encrypted.🤣

FAS hasn’t always had great launches either. Not saying either company are better or worse in that regard. It’s part of development of new products from what I’ve observed.

IME both companies have had some growing pains but not exactly one to one.

Anyhoo… it’s not going to be well accepted to just go into a thread about a particular product and compare it to your gear of choice with short quick posts. I think your experience is valid and should be a welcome post but to just stop into a thread to drop …The reverb sucks and the amp tone of FAS are way better…. that can come off as a drive by jab just to tweak the nipple of QC users.

On a positive note, I got my QC back from Neural. They took care of the issue I had (impedance not working) free of charge including shipping, despite being a used unit with no warranty or receipt. Massive kudos to the company.

I will say that I don't get the "lack of response" in the QC vs Fractal. I have the two units hooked up to the same interface and monitors, swapping between them with an A/B switch, and comparing multiple amps through the same impulse response. They sound extremely similar to me and respond similarly when rolling down the volume. There may be some slight EQ differences but it's very minor.

Effects are a different animal, Fractal is far more mature in this area.

Regarding updates, Neural IMO has taken far too long to progress here. This likely won't make a difference for most touring musicians who don't want to touch their gear if they don't have to, but for people who want more functionality, basically any other company (outside Boss) is offering more.

Launches 🚀 no
But lunches I have heard are stellar , full salad bar and Cliff gets pizza 🍕 every last Friday of the month

Yeah and I’ve been a Fractal customer since the Standard. It’s not always been great. Still really like the Frcatal gear and Cliff’s dedication to his products.

Even on older firmware, I had amps I liked better on Quad Cortex when comparing directly with my (at the time) FM3, and vice versa. They do have quality modeling, but as I always say....no company nails every amp topography, all of the time across the range of amp models. Not even Fractal.

The model sets are living, evolving things and usually newer models show a bit more fidelity as companies learn to optimize their internal processes and avoid past mistakes.

I think they get a semi-pass on the slow model development because people turn to captures to "self-update".
