NDSP Quad Cortex

Apparently the SLO model in the QC is based on an older SLO (when Mike was building them) and the SLO-X is based on a newer BAD built SLO. Just what I read on either Discord, Unity or TGP... Can't say for sure. I have the SLO-X plug-in but no longer have the QC to see for myself.

I’m talking just plugins. The QC model is the OG version of the amp but they un-bonked it with the revision. I was comparing the SLO plug vs the new SLO-X plug.

I can't remember who mentioned it on here but even if the QC model was the OG version of the SLO, it still shouldn't sound bad 🤣

Are people truly trying to say the SLO sounded bad before BAD?

I'll be curious for others input on the plugs. I was wondering if this would be a thing.

I’m not even sure what we’re talking about lol

The QC model is good since the re-model of it. (Of the pre-B.A.D., aka OG, version of the amp)

I’m talking about the plugin and its recent X’ification. (IE nothing to do with the QC)

I know you're talking the plugin and this is only going further down the QC tangent, but the "new" or "unbonked" version still sounded suboptimal in the recent shootout that Sonic Drive Studios did between the QC Solano and the real amp.

Strangely, the ancient Helix Solano Lead model sounded far more accurate.....

The new X versions have truncated the IR's to 25ms (so its in line with the QC :(), have you tried using the same IR loader for both?

I just messed around with it for half an hour, TLDR… I think it’s the levels. Even though I had everything the same (amp, pedals, IO, DAW chain etc) at identical settings it is coming in quieter. (While simultaneously having some clipping artifacts) I ended up having to reduce the input level, crank the X’s output and the bus levels to get them to the same ballpark as the regular SLO plug and then they are really close tonally. (Close enough for rock n roll) The X may be cleaner overall, so it might take some slight adjustments to get it to wash out identically. And I’m just messing with clean channel.

So for SLO plug peeps you may want to fiddle with the levels a little on X, because they need some tweaking. (If you’re OCD about things )

I’m glad they didn’t ruin it after all. :ROFLMAO:

I hear a bit more pres or top end in the X versions of Nameless and SLO , not that it’s a bad thing just listening to a few comparisons the OGs sounded a bit thicker

@MirrorProfiles Interesting, isn‘t it? I read somewhere that the QC has a different maximum input volume than the reference level of their plugins (which is really stupid, but well, it's NDSP.)… could it be that they have adjusted the X plugins to the input level of the QC and these now require a different calibration value?

nah, X versions have the same input level as before. QC is something different (is it adjustable somewhere though?)

The QC input level is adjustable in the IO settings on the unit. It's not compensated, like Fractal, for example, so it should be set to default (0) for accuracy (with internal amp models). It's probably because the inputs double as mic inputs, which obviously shoudn't be compensated. Of course, none of this is actually mentioned in the manual, but Crepi posted on the NDSP discord about this. Good luck finding it if you don't know where to look :rofl

how lame if true. is this what they are spending money on? hahahah
Company markets product shocker.

I don’t think any of us were laboring under the illusion that NDSP were broke. Nor did I expect them to assign a cartoonist to develop the next revision of CorOS. :idk

theI honestly feel like NDSP is rolling in it and does very well lol
Well they are the top modelling seller in more than a few big chains
Honestly or all the bad things they have done getting their distribution channels was very smart , that a huge win that people can buy it try it with no obligation, make payments

If there's something NDSP knows how to do, it's marketing.

I think the new animation ad is actually pretty cool and well made. This is the sort of stuff that gets people talking, sharing it online, just as those vague "SOON" things do. That then makes those who don't know about NDSP go look them up. Then they might end up buying something.

Line6 does marketing too, but they are nowhere near as on the pulse of people using social media as NDSP.
Fractal by comparison is woefully out of date even with some of their own product pages.
Boss dumps products on the market and then kinda disappears again.

On top of that the QC being available in a lot of stores goes a long way.

These are the sort of things that put them on those top sellers lists. You don't need to have the absolute best product on the market, the best support, or the best reputation. You need to know how to sell to people who are not the enthusiast crowd on forums like this.

100% if there is one thing I can never fault them for it there marketing
The ads , the emails
The 14 days trials even
That’s pretty desirable when you have the choice of 10 or 15 plug-ins the ability to try them all I think in many cases guarantees a few sales
And then once every 6 months they taunt you with 50% off , it’s brilliant really
They have so many little tricks
Like we noticed you have been enjoying Morello need more time to decide , how about we renew your 14 day trial

It’s almost like the car dealer what do we have to do today to get you to say yes
Do we give this guy a 20% coupon , extended trial they do it all
