NDSP Quad Cortex

Personally I would be hesitant to conclude that the plug-in integration eats from other topics. That’s architectural changes…whole other skills set then creating an efx model.

Looks like it's essentially both because the architecture is changing (PCOM firmwares) to suit each plugin batch, but then each batch is also getting rebuilt for running in a modular/block fashion on QC.

I don't think it's merely coincidental that new QC-native content development has practically dried up (oooooh, circular delay!) as this plugin effort has ramped up.

I expect their core dev team isn't that big so dev time for sound design gets shared by dev time for architectural stuff etc.

You'd think they'd be able to push out a steady stream of new fx etc, but it looks like the last time it got new fx, amps and whatnot was with CorOS 2.1.0 in last August.

Now we are at a point where I don't want to buy another one because other manufacturers will release something new in 1-2 years.
Agree with all the rest, but I take this with a grain of salt. Other manufacturers have already released subsequent products, and none of them have bettered the QC in terms of its combination of form-factor, UI, routing and I/O. Per the old cliché, if my QC were stolen today, I'd buy another one. Yes, AxeFX MkIV might be better in a year's time, but a) there's no guarantee of that, b) who knows what it might cost, c) if I like it better, I'll flip what I have and buy what I want. When has it ever been any different?

Or QC users to buy DLC.

Neural doesn’t release content on the QC with any regularity, so these will be content purchase opportunities. This will be a big revenue stream for Neural.
Sorry I'm dumb... what's 'DLC' ?

Hard to say how much is actually changing (or will change going forward) in each of those f/w updates, though. It could be simple things like menu item updates, followed by a bunch of QA/ stress testing. If they haven't completely shit the bed, they should eventually stabilize with a firmware base that can automatically accommodate new plugins... not that I'm holding my breath or anything. ;)

I'm not convinced this is that big a pull. I stopped buying plugins after I got the QC. Most of the amps are in there in un-modded form. Many of the fx from the plugins are there in some form. And 3.0 is bringing even more of those plugin features for everyone. The doubler and transpose, for instance.

It's also bringing pitch correction and side-chaining and lots of MIDI stuff.

I don't think it's as light on content as being made out.

I'm not saying those are nothing features, but in terms of new amps or cabs or reverbs? It's pretty dry, man. Yeah, they threw an additional batch of factory captures, but in their usual one-step-forward-two-steps-back fashion I don't think (?) let you access the metadata for settings and such, so who knows what that amp capture is actually for?

That's good and all but aren't they going to be supporting PCOM for a very long time (or until they catch up on all plugins which from the sounds of it new ones won't be PCOM at launch?)

Hopefully what they say comes to fruition but to me theyve lost any credibility through their statements. They need to start putting in to action

I really don't know what the fuck you want here. I feel like NDSP can't win. People complained about plugins for ages and now they are bringing them you're complaining that delivering the plugins is taking up too much resources.

I just can't with this shit... Lol.

Lol I want them to put their money where their mouth is?

If you are telling me NDSP has always been true to their word you are a lost cause 😬

NDSP did this to themselves, not me.

You posting a comment from Dan means absolutely nothing because we can all copy quotes from them saying how plugins would be available at launch, amps take 8 hours to make, aggressively adding effects and amps post launch, plugin compatibility isn't hard, etc etc

Neural will for sure see a spike in plug-in sales from QC users, particularly for suites that have plug-in exclusive content. There will def be users willing to drop $ to get the Granophyre on the QC. (Or the Cali, Imperial MKII, Nameless etc.) DLC as a revenue stream is not a new concept.

In my mind atm they are competitive “as is”…but if their strategy is to only offer new content by purchase…they’re gonna get eaten by the competition.

They will not go exclusively to a paid model. (Neural “Hold my beer” opportunity lol) The larger topic (imo) is that they can’t aggressively support two content pipelines. (Plug-in and QC) So if youre team QC and have only gotten three new amps in 16 months, you don’t really care about their plug-in compatibility progress beyond the fact that it’s the reason you aren’t getting new shit on the QC.

Saying this with the least amount of bias I can muster. And trust me when I say it's tough. NDSP is never going to win with some people. Here especially. Myself duly noted. The quicker that gets realized the better imo. Though both "sides" should certainly know better by now  :hmm :rofl

sheer amount of work that had to go into supporting PCOM
Which was what? A 2021 "S O O N" feature? And never properly in a QC owner's interest anyway - differentiated from native QC content only in so far as it generates revenue for NDSP.

They should have cut bait on this years ago.

It's the classic "feel bad for us, we are working so hard" line they have mastered.

When in all actuality it's a product of their own mismanagement.

I agree though, they should have cut bait once they realized what it would entail. But maybe they truly didn't know until recent?

Those other manufacturers are not Line6 or Fractal though. Hell, I might even be interested in what Boss might make next as a flagship unit.

Everything that has come out after the QC has been mostly more budget range units, or simplified stuff like Tonex. Then there's the Tone Master Pro, with a future almost as uncertain as the QC was at release.

I've got plenty of gear already, I can use Helix Native if I need a modeler so I have the luxury of playing the waiting game.
