NDSP Quad Cortex

Haven’t been following the thread but got tagged... what's this about? :popcorn

Anyway, confirming yes.

Just hanging out living out our best memories of "This new bird flu strain or whatever -- it's not really gonna be that bad, right? Like, I shouldn't worry about our planned big vacation in April or anything should I?" times.

No, pedantic would be noting this was a feature promised during the preorder campaign. We have Doug Castro, on record, stating that plugin compatibility was trivial to implement and the main issue was converting patches (!!!). And, somewhere along the line, that turned into "no, this is actually a lot of work, we need to rewrite all plugins in the process."

Truth is, they marketed and sold the QC on a feature they didn't even have a proof of concept for at the time.

And yeah, sure, it's gotten... better since. 5 years in and some stuff works, some don't, yet NDSP keeps releasing new plugins without PCOM - which is incredible.
I guess I have the benefit of working for ROLI. I've seen CEO's say bullshitty things just to make a sale, and then the engineering team has to scramble.

But, I was referring to communication from NDSP, not Sweetwater, prior to launch saying PCOM would be included. I wasn't able to find anything.

Oh, It was definitely promised on the presale blurb. I remember people being quite excited about it at the time.

I'll dig around Archive.org and see if i can pin the FAQ back then. In the meantime, you can check videos from NAMM 2020 where a bunch of NDSP engineers and sales rep were promising plugin compatibility on launch - or shortly after.

EDIT: Found these old screenshot gems:LOL:

Let's talk in 5 years when Helix Stadium finally sounds as good as the Axe FX 4.

<ducks>

All I really have to say to PCOM is .... it arrived. Their best plugins are compatible. More will follow.

It took 5 years?

Boohoo, cry me a trio of milky tough titties.

Where do you think Sweetwater gets the ad copy from?
Edit: there were pages of talk about it at TOP that got nuked/deleted when the “well this is gonna be harder than we thought” thing started where people were asking for clarification between what was listed and what was coming and (I might misremember) the copy on the NDSP page changed way before the retailers did. I’m just amazed people are believing “oh they never said that”.

Doug definitely walked back comments about how he thought PCOM would be easy. And there was misinformation on Sweetwater's site. There's no question about that. However, both of those came after the initial launch.

Orvillain though, is asking about something different: Was PCOM promised during the pre-order to be included in the initial version? I believe the answer to his question is "no".

Awesome! I'm a hippie who just bought the John Mayer plugin released a month ago, how can install it? :stirthepot
Do it Voodoo style, write it on a piece of paper and shove it up your arse.

And what gets my goat is, people whinge about the silliest things. No one has ever joined me in whinging and whining and demonising them for their crappy signal to noise ratio!

HOW'S THAT FOR PEDARNTIAC!

This is for my benefit, so i can reference back to it when this topic get inevitably discussed again, but (multiple revisions of) the original Quad Cortex pre-launch FAQ can be found at Archive.org - f.ex. http://web.archive.org/web/20201124151212/https://neuraldsp.com/pages/quad-cortex-faqs .

And, as mentioned, there's also a couple videos from NAMM 2020 discussing plugin compatibility. Here's one with Francisco Cresp (min 1:45) - remember, this was six years ago:

...aaaaand i'm done for the day, thank you! Tip your waitress!
