I'm willing to bet there have been multiple revisions, each for multiple reasons, and this recent one was just the first that was "public-facing".

NDSP wrote back (that's one reply per day three days running) and provided a UPS label for shipping the unit back for repairs. With apologies for the inconvenience and no mention of any cost to me. So, provided there's no misunderstanding here, KUDOS to NDSP for making this right! (And lucky me for having a backup unit on hand - with backup presets on the cloud!)
