Certainly underrated, yes. A couple of months ago I was at a show, and I liked the guy's tone enough to walk up and see he was running a JCM2000. This got me digging around trying to get a sense of the lineage (Marshall naming conventions melt my brain) between the JCM800, JCM2000, DSLxxx... Coincidentally, just a few days later, someone mentioned the DSL100HR import. I had no idea half these amps existed before then, let alone that the HR could be had new for less than a grand.

I thought about taking it apart and having a closer look at the transformer, but I figured MF would prefer I didn't. And part of the point of buying new is not having to bother. I'll let them have another stab at it - I've already returned the amp and a replacement is on the way. Hopefully FedEx will get this one to the right town, and hopefully this one will be in better health. (If not, then I'll concede that @6CA7-A had a point.)

No one's claiming that these are overbuilt mil-spec and/or boutiquey collectible amps. We're just saying they sound good.

Once apon a time in a galaxy far far away the general gearhead public would praise whats good and warn others to avoid whats bad.
Here we have a guy saying what a great screwed up amp he has which is confusing at best.
Kinda like the German Shepard that ripps yer leg off then goes for help.
Anyway nice to see so many ripples in the water @ 04:00hrs over one or 2 posts about a ridick-u-las thread.
Maybe get out more.
If one or 2 of my posts about a defective vietnam amp has created so much agnst here seems the pump is
primed for a forum meltdown of sorts the likes i'll just skip skippy.
