My first impression of HX Stomp

All. Presets. Suck.Ā© but that one was Igor, I believe. I avoid programming factory presets because mine are all for sitting in my really dense doomgazey mixes, which makes them sound like butt by themselves.

Anything dialed in to sound good in a mix is going to sound like ass by itself, regardless of the genre.

@Los-D i am checking out the other Line 6 originals and they are pretty cool. The names are forgettable though so I’m not sure which one to say that I liked it. šŸ˜„

It's a cool unit, nice and compact, good effects. Still not a big fan of many of their amp models, at least thats what I remember when I borrowed one a year or so ago - unless the modeling has improved since then..

4 months with the HX Stomp. The new Super Reverb is pretty sweet. I can dial in a great guitar tone for recording but I suck at bass tones. Anyone have a nice crossover split bass tone with a little grit up top and punch at the bottom? It’s eluding me.

Tonex is still more fun.

In some time from now modeling was a phase for all of us and we end up with real amps and a pedalboard.

What the definition of a real amp will be is open for discussion.

8 months later I’ve come to a conclusion. Tonex is more fun.
It may be, but Stomp is still the best guitar pedal ever made (if one view it as a guitar pedal). The major issue is that people have a hard time accepting it for what it is, and trying to force an idea about it being something else or that it should’ve been something else. IMO Line 6 did it right.

You could even think away the modeling, forget amps cabs… it’s still the best guitar pedal ever made. Size/features, I/O, content.

Agree. For me it’s the pedal that is keeping me from buying any more pedals. I have my core analog pedals and the Stomp does everything else I might fancy.

I do, for some reason, find the amp modeling to be a bit ā€boringā€ as well but still absolutely useful.

This is the discussion that I’d like to have. Tell me more about what you mean.

I get what Swede is saying. You could take away the amp and cab modeling from the stomp and it would still be a feature-rich, very capable pedal for 99.5% guitarists. Although I think the main issue with any pedal like this is there will always be a percentage of players that just don't want to be bothered with menu diving and the sheer amount of options. That is understandable.

I'm finding myself in that group more and more tbh. These days I'd rather have less options that I know inside out than menu diving for sounds I'm not totally happy with.

Realistically, I prefer that too... but it's hard not to enjoy and experiment with these multi-fx goodies at times.
