For real man.Random trivia- this song was written about Brent’s friend, Toes, who passed away.
Caught an interview with him recently (they don’t publicize them anymore) where they asked how they wrote this one and Brent said he was noodling on it backstage when Brann, the drummer, told him he was digging it and had some vocal ideas and bam, a Mastodon song was born.
The more I learn about how these guys write the more stoked I am with them. It’s very much 4 dudes on the exact same page, even if they all use different words to fill the pages. The last couple albums have been mostly Bill and Brann writing the bulk of material with Brent just kinda doing his thing over the top, but by the time it’s done everyone is so woven into a song you can’t tell who wrote what, as where a band like Lamb Of God, if it’s a bluesy kinda riff, Mark wrote it, if it’s a straight metal riff, Willie wrote it.
The drummer is UNREAL good.
The way he can pull stops & crazy starts is nutz man.
Him & the drummer in Gojira are so unbelievably good, you forget they’re back there in the heart of it until you listen a few times.
Y’all know how I feel about the “Animal” Hinds.
-I had his back when he was loaded beyond biblicals’ at the Orange demonstration..
That guy can play like a M’f’er,
-if you’re in a band with him,
like Joe Perry-HE’S the lead guitar player in the band.
Most don’t realize, to be the main gunslinger dude,it comes at a hefty nightly price up there.
How can you not respect them?
They’ve persevered on through doing their own thing and their music is quite hard to comprehend or get thru until you give them some faithful listens..
-you’re like damn..these dudes are bad asses..pulling that off for as long as they have.
Viking filth’bags…there’s hope even if alll that’s left if filth.
These guys helped me through some extremely dark times.
Particularly this song.
So much depth in pain & the morbid appetite..
I keep saying’ it and I even told Tim Pierce,
the legend,
“We need chsracter’s man”
we need dudes up there, otherwise Tim..,.
-it’s a Bugera”.
I’m waiting on his response btw
If there’s one band that inspires me to never give up bring myself through my music regardless of what individuals think..
-it’s Mastadon
