Marshall 9001 preamp demo

Ok. This thing gets a bad rap, but it is a pain in the tailpipe to dial in.

This clip starts with the Synergy IICP. After some limp wristed playing, there is a gap where i switch it over to the 9001. I add some bass, and at some point i kick on an Helix DS 1. It kinda needs that to tighten it up a bit.

For power amp simulation, I am using the patent-pending Alex/James Archetype power amp + EQ as detailed here - https://thegearforum.com/threads/helix-talk.931/post-71953, and York MES 412 OS Mix 06 for the IR.



I should actually have a plan and warm up when making clips, lol.

Sounds fun! I battled with one of these for 3 years and eventually let it go. There were some interesting gain sounds but at the time it was competing against a 97 recto and a Mesa Studio Pre and it just didn’t stand a chance.

I never tried it through a good standalone tube poweramp and did wonder if it would have worked better for me in that configuration.
