Lovepedal ‘Sale’

I'd noticed that a while back when I started falling down the EJ rabbit hole again. Between that and the EJ FF->TS discussion, it makes me wonder what stacking a Fuzz Face into a Bluesbreaker would sound like, but I haven't had a chance to try it yet.

I've run a FF into a KoT and it was fine but didn't work as well (for me) as a klone with my Marshall.

(It also makes me wonder why the Lovepedal ad copy about the Dover Drive goes on and on about being inspired by the Tube Driver, because as far as the circuit goes, it ain't.)

Sean has a lot of form for that kind of thing IMO. Look at his descriptions for all of the Lovepedals that turned out to be Electra distortions.

Granted, it’s EJ’s Fuzz Face into EJ’s Tube Screamer into EJ’s Dumble, that clip from Total Electric Guitar displays exactly that- he switches to the dirty rhythm and you hear the dirt kick on right before he steps on the Fuzz Face.

If there’s a better Fuzz Face tone out there, I’ve yet to hear it!
Correction, it's Tube Screamer into FF! :)

As for the pickups discussed, his middle and neck pickups has always been traditional strat singles, only HS-2 for bridge.

Yeah. Like the COT50, Les Lius, Tchula, and Woodrow.

There’s nothing wrong with making variations of a solid, general topology. But I don’t always like how pedals are marketed. And that’s a general remark, not just about Lovepedal.

Absolutely. Completely agree with that.

I’ve seen it both ways at this point and I believe it was this board that sprung a big discussion about it and I’m assuming from his boards without a TS at all that it depends on what the dirty rhythm amp is doing, if it’s actually distorting on it’s own or if he’s using the dirt from the TS. His wiring is always such a mess it’s pretty hard to tell with other boards. What I thought was interesting was Dave Phillips made a post specifically noting the TS before the FF, but that was before he built the board below.

Zoom in down here, look at the right angle jack coming out of the A/B switch with Rhythm and DR marked on it and follow the cable out of the DR jack, it goes under the wah then under the FF where it loops right down to the Input. And if we only had this pic to go buy, it’d be easy to say “Yeah, but that right angle jack is also plugged into the output of the Tubescreamer and is going to the Fuzz Face…..”

Where you can see it’s a George L end on the Output of the Fuzz Face that’s attached to the chrome right angle jack on the Input of the Tube Screamer.

And the no TS board, probably used for an Experience Hendrix tour-

Yeah, but we're talking of his back in the day tone, unfortunately his fuzz sound has been pretty terrible for many years now...:bonk

Here's from when he set up the old AVM board a few years back:

I remember from one of Philips pedalboard builds for he he had the TS in a loop box so he could remove the buffer before the FF

Only had time to plug the BC558 in for a couple minutes, the knobs are matched with the OG in this, but to match the volume of the BC558 I had to turn the OG's volume up a pinch. This video isn't ideal, I figured pointed the end of the phone towards the cab would sound a little better than that but, nope!

There's a considerable amount of clarity/presence in the BC558 that hasn't been in other Dovers, essentially removing the 'blanket'/rolled off treble associated with the EJ tone. Sustains well, but doesn't have quite as much dirt on tap when fully cranked up. I'll cover that with the demo. Overall, I like the variation in the BC558 more, but I don't think it can do the same thing a single Dover plugged into a clean amp can, I think this one will fair a bit better when stacked with another pedal or going into a slightly dirty amp.

This is like the 'bluesy, neck pickup Dover'.

They got me with the OD11. I’ve been wanting to add something Timmy-like to the arsenal for a while. Hard to pass the thing up when it’s cheaper than a used Timmy.

I have a v3 Tim and an Amp Eleven Big Box, as well as a Box of Awesome (OD Eleven, Kalamazoo) that are awesome. The Amp Eleven Big Box seems to be more aggressive than the v3 Tim.

I’d still like to chase down a purple Plexi at some point but the one he’s selling right now is a bit more JTM45 - kind of the opposite direction I’m usually heading.

The page says, "Between a broken up JTM45 to as gainy as an early 80’s JCM800." Later, it adds, "As you advance the DRIVE control this unit will morph into different Plexi era characteristics.. At the bottom of the sweep a nice JTM45 ish tone is present, roll back your volume knob on the guitar and the clipping goes away, just like the real thing! Advance the TONE control while turning up the DRIVE and all of a sudden you are in 68 PLEXI 100 land.. FULL ON JCM 800 ROAR when dimed!"

You could contact him on Instamigraine, I mean Instagram.

Looking forward to getting the Dover Drive. The Amp50 is still one of my most favorite boost/mild od/tone enhancers out there.

Wish I got this version of the Coternity. I may buy it and give the prior version away, plus get the Amp Eleven Big Box.
