Line 6 PowerCab CL cabs - NOT FRFR

If it's anything like the speakers used in the Catalyst, those are reportedly quite flat by default.

The only issue is guitar speakers having a very limited frequency response range, rolling off at 5Khz or so - so they won't quite do the FRFR/PA thing.
TBH, I thought the speaker was the weakest link on the Catalyst (especially for high gain) but other folks seem to like it. YMMV I guess.

The Cat 60 speaker was pretty decent. I think I swapped it for a Celestion V Type and noticed very little difference if any. I never cranked it up though. I could see a pair of Cat 60's being a relatively inexpensive stereo amplification for a modeler.

I’ve mentioned this before but cranked, I added an EQ pedal in the loop to reduce the harsher frequencies.

Well it seems that its similar like a Powercab but with BMT and Open back with PC112 you can defeat the tweeter and then can also pick a few types of speakers, I was thinking they might make something like the Tonex Cab, oh well I'm sure it has its use for some folks

To me this seems like Line6 saw that some modeler users were pretty pleased with the Line6 Catalyst amps to power their modelers on stage, and chose to make a product for those folks.

So this is like combining the tech of the Catalyst with the speaker emulation of the Powercab. In fact, I expect this is mostly the same hardware as the Catalyst. The traditional enclosure should help it sound more like a good old open back 1x12 compared to the more PA box style original Powercab.

I was thinking more that L6 got a really good deal on parts and this is what could be made from them, lol.

Do we think the price increase over the Catalyst is just about inflation and a smaller market for the product? Or are there component upgrades that justify it? Or, more cynically, because people are willing to pay $200 more for Fender and Tonex?

Well i'm a moron, i was looking at the comparison grid for the original Powercabs :facepalm and their 70Hz - 20kHz frequency response.

Anyway, if these were available back then, i'd probably would have gotten a powered cab with a real speaker instead of a FRFR.
Wonder how a Powercab would sound with a Red Back or EV?

If they're anything like the OG Powercabs, i expect the build quality to be much better than Catalysts.

I don’t think they have much in common with the old . Look at the pictures of the new powercab alongside the catalyst. Looks near identical outside controls.

Yeah, looks like a Catalyst with a different control panel. I wonder if DI had any thoughts on this product during its creation. From my seat (on the toilet at work) it looks like a very “sure, why not, we got the stuff” sort of thing. I think L6 could have the perfect “cheap” powered cab with that closed-back Spider with the tweeters and the stereo power amp, but for some reason it was an insane idea to put a stereo 1/4” amp input on the back.

Yeah those are def not for me , Im sticking with my Powercabs, they work for me and my environment

For Helix, I much prefer Fender FR12. All the modeling I need is in the floor unit, so I'm happy not to pay extra money for anything else I don't need at all.
