Line 6 Helix Stadium

Gonna call it:

"Proxy" is a place holder name for what they can't reveal as of yet.

Obviously, I may be wrong but something about it feels amusing to me.

Line 6: "Operation Proxy".

I use fractal products and think they are great but man…a lot of the people on forums…they’re something.

Trying to suggest anything is wrong with the product or feature improvements gets met with 50 backlash posts all the same dribble.

“Who cares, this is for pros”
“nothing matters except the sound”
“X brand is just a toy”
“Too many people are used to the UI, it can’t be changed now”

They’re so closed minded they can wrap their head around the fact that usability and sound quality can coexist and aren’t mutually exclusive.

I use Fractal gear too and it IS f*cking great ... end of story.

But if I were the mod there, I'd nuke that thread .... it just does nothing positive for the brand or the forum.

People take brand loyalty way too far. It's just a purchase. The defensiveness i am seeing from TMP people is much the same. All kinds of arguments now about how people should like what they have, how liking/wanting more or better means music isn't your priority. It's ok to own something and admit it's being challenged or even beat. It's not a personal failing.

I own an FM9T and a TMP.

OK ... Im in a ranty mood

I have an almost limitless amount of time and respect for Fractal and Cliff - what they have done and do for modeling is hard to quantify.

And I love my FM3.

-But- I posted a few pages back that with this release, the biggest mistake Fractal could make - in my mind - is to keep relying on the whole "our modeling is the best because [insert words of your choice] .... ie: we are Fractal ...... Cliff is doing it ......we expose 3,000 parameters .... we issue a new FW every 4 days .... we've had a breakthrough in how we think component X should respond to harmonic frequencies .... our forum members have eargasms when even the smallest thing is tweaked etc ...etc....

You can only rely on an objectively un-provable proposition for so long .... pre Helix / Kemper / QC it wasn't an issue .... but that's a long time ago now

In 2025, with these units, its like debating which shade of blue is best or most accurately blue

Like it or not, you can get Pro level tones and feel out of a $400 Ampero ... like it or not, that matters to buyers - pro or not - and lets face it .. not even the "pros" are making serious coin these days

I.m.h.o .... they need to keep doing everything they have been doing modeling wise, but also for f*cks sake, hire or poach some Industrial or UI designers / experts and redesign the whole user interaction experience from the ground up ...... this shit matters.

Look at the FM3 and FM9 - both brilliant units ... period.

Now look at this new Stadium - I'll be surprised if its not equally brilliant sounding too - we'll find out.

Whereas the Stadium - and the Helix - look like a *lot* of time went into its overall design and look etc... ..... the "FM" series, by comparison, from Day 1, look like they were designed by the old Soviet Block Polit Bureau .... and again ... rightly or wrongly, this shit does matter.

But the Stadium is for another day for Fractal .... the finalization of the US/China I'm being a dipshit and starting a political thread deal today has locked in the overall I'm being a dipshit and starting a political thread at %55.

That's going to jack their prices across the whole line by major, major $$$. They are too small to absorb it. So they have to hope sales wont drop at the higher prices, otherwise they go backwards in terms of profitability relative to pre-I'm being a dipshit and starting a political thread.s rates ... or even worse, they are in the invidious position of hoping to sell more units at higher prices !!!! - I'd suggest, not going to happen.

I have no answers - I'm a true "lapsed Economist" ..... so I'm not really sure what my point is, but given there isn't much more known about the Stadium as of yet, my old Economist mind started to focus on these issues.
I agree with all this, but at the same time am realistic about what Fractal can achieve with their resources.

Axe-Edit is by all means a pretty well liked software with few complaints from Fractal users. Line6 also said they want to keep the familiarity of their previous units, and that seems like a worthwhile path for Fractal too.

So aiming for a user interface that takes the good parts of Axe-Edit and translates that to something that can work onboard is where I'd be looking if I was Fractal.

Or a straight up pivot to making an Axe-Fx plugin with Axe-Edit UI because that's not going to be subject to additional government taxes. But anything can change by the end of the year when both HXS units will be out.

Fractal's devices have already been really pricy in the EU. The FM9 Turbo already costs more than what the Helix Stadium is likely to cost in EU. I don't think they can take any more price hikes.

There are objective things we can measure. Signal to noise ratio, intermodulation distortion, aliasing, etc.

Helix 1 didn't have much of an issue with any of this.

Helix 2 electric stadium edition will probably be miles better.

The subjective stuff I can't be knobbed even discussing.

On a serious note, I'm thinking / hoping that they implement "Proxy" just like Two Notes have done with "Codex"

Make it a "shell" that can natively and full-rez run things, like, lets say, NAM.

Its clearly going to be A.I based with Cloud training, so why re-invent the wheel (?)

Just a thought

What is the issue? Live stream links? How are you sharing them on your end?

For me it was simply from a laptop browser tab > youtube > share > copy link > paste link.

That plain link wasn't working here.

But, if I then rename the same link in hypertext, with the insert link option - it works.

Durability is a concern for me.

I wish they would have gone with local web-based editing so no software install was needed. Like the Headrush Prime series. And believe me, that's the only thing I wish Line 6 would do like HR!

In short

=> NDSP = over promise and [chronically] under-deliver, even years later
=> L6 = shut up, under promise and always over-deliver

F*ck I hate NDSP but the absolute butt-hole pain this will be causing our Finnish "wankers" is a joy to think about.

I especially loved D.I's subtle little dig about a "robust / sturdy built-in power supply" ?
You're not wrong about NDSP over-promising, but I still love my QCs too much to really get behind any of this.

As for the robust (IEC, presumably) power supply, that will be one primary reason for keeping a QC on hand: easy deployment on a battery-powered pedalboard.

Bingo. We have a winner. The only reason I started playing guitar was because it made me happy and was fun. I'd posit that is the reason pretty much everyone here started playing.

For me, the happiest, most fun and best tones I ever got was for about 5 years from the age of 19 - 24 when I used a Fender Dual Showman Head into a 4 x 10 Box and 4 or 5 meat and potatoes Boss pedals ... live gigs and recording ... f*cking glorious ..... go figure.

If playing guitar isn't making you happy and is fun for you .... the Axe FX 8 or the Helix Stadium Ultra Plus Extreme Edition aint going to do shit for you.

Maybe Thursdays are my ranty day ? ;)

100%.

I tried to build a pedalboard to have lots of knobs to turn but I never use it because of how inflexible it is and how much of a pain it is to rig everything up. I'm spoiled with modelers where you can instantly swap out say an analog delay for a dual digital delay.

But I really dislike always using screens and mice and all that. I'd love to be able to merge the convenience of digital modelers with some physical tactile interaction. That's a big part of why I buy and try different units. At the end of the day they all tend to be kind of similar in how you interact so I revert to the Fractal which has the most flexibility.

I think the first unit that really offers a great tactile experience to interact with and control the device is going to be a winner for me. They all have lots of functionality and really good to great sounds. It's what is the most fun and easy to use while getting all those really good tones.
