Line 6 Helix Stadium Talk

Real Revv - channel 4 (Red) with aggression on red (equivalent to 2 on the models):

The load was a real V30 4x12 cab - an Orange if you're curious.

Stadium Revv - equivalent settings:

Stadium Revv - same settings as above, but treble and presence increased a lot to try and get the thing sounding brighter and punchier:

The same impulse response in all cases. The differences you hear are almost emblematic of my entire experience with Stadium.
IMO, Stadium here just sounds noticeably like a modeller and that’s not a description I really like to use. Feels more distant, less lively, more flat. The adjusted one doesn’t really help, it just goes a bit weird.

IDK why so many of the amps have that characteristic with the top end and low end not being right. My guess is something in the poweramp modelling needing a tweak.

similar to the way I add an input eq on some of the FAS Marshall amps, I have been adding a parametric EQ prior to the Stadium amp block and putting a low cut between 150 and 250 Hz. It works sometimes for containing some of the low end muddiness. If I pipe out from Stadium and use the FAS Multicomp, it helps clean things up. The Helix 3 band comp doesn't perform the same way.

Maybe I'm going deaf then because some of the Agoura models feel and sound better than anything else currently out there IMO.

I thought Agora compared very well to Fractal for some of the models.
I found the cleans like the Essex , Princeton , Deluxe , Bassman were all really good and comparable where the issue was is the high gain stuff ,
While it feels noticeably better to play in my short time with there is this low mid buildup and some kind of wooly lows and the top end sounds like it’s been cut off a bit
I can’t explain it and it’s not every model
Almost like a very low NFB and a cranked depth control
Perhaps if there was access to deeper parameter like the NFB
Or depth pres freq , or user selectable bright caps w a few options it might help . Not sure would need to spend more time w one
But the comments here and other places all seem to consistently complain about the same tonal characteristics that can’t be coincidence there has to be some merit

That’s perfectly valid. I’m really struggling to think of many like for like comparisons where the Agoura models sound like the real thing. That of course has no bearing on actually liking how the models currently sound, or any kind of preference with feel.

The thing is... I quite often hear the exact same thing in Fractal modelling.
I think Fractal does have some characteristic qualities across its amps, and I also can’t think of a single Fractal amp that sounds more bright than any real world equivalent I’ve compared against - 100% of the time they are darker. The main difference is Fractal expose enough deep parameters to do what you need to do. It doesn’t seem like Hype or Z Pre Post can do enough to make the difference up and there’s no easy SIC adjustments either

Yeah I do agree. But there's been a few cases where on Fractal I might have to adjust 20 parameters to get a sound ... and occasionally I'll turn Hype up... and it'll be like "that's the spot!" ... but it is quite rare.

The problem with baking everything into one macro knob like that is, it doesn't always suit everyone's taste. And the problem with 60 odd parameters to tweak is, most people are idiots and don't know how to tune most of them. I certainly don't!

SIC adjustments are coming at some point I should think.

That’s why I mention it , in the older firmware 100% the dreaded blanket on speaker or low mid buildup was always present that said over the past year or 2 I think Cliff has made huge strides in getting the raw amp a lot of people complain and don’t like it but I find it way easier to get a bright cutting sound out of the Fractal now than previously

One of the major things I wish the Stadium had was some kind of preset levelling tool like Fractal. Or at the very least an easier way to see metered levels within the device.

Just seems a no-brainer.

There isn’t in the Stadium? Yeah that’s a bummer then. The levels in the AM4 are easy to set up.
