Line 6 Helix Stadium Talk

Is that actually what he said?

Has anyone found a screen protector that fits yet? There was someone on one of the Facebook groups that said they found one and were insisting that it was a 100% fit. It turned out to be slightly too long. It would hang over the edge by 1/8" so I decided not to use it. I guess they have a different definition of "100%" than me. That's what I get for listening to people on Facebook.

It's a model 1959 from the late 1960s. Whose idea was it to name an amp after a number that sounds very much like a year of manufacturing?

If the world still exists in the year 2203 and 2204, a few guitarists might be confused then as well. :D

I don't think so because the 50 watt version is the 1987 and the Superbass is the 1992. All of them came out around the same time. I don't know why they chose the numbering they did. I saw one of the major Youtube channels that covers Stadium content incorrectly say that the Brit Megabass was a Superbass from the year 1992, so it certainly causes some confusion if you aren't familiar with them.

Iirc model numbers of that era are just "random" catalogue numbers assigned by their distributor at the time.

1959 - 100w SuperLead
1987 - 50w SuperLead
1992 - 100w SuperBass
1986 - 50w Superbass
2203 - 100w JMP/JCM single channel
2204 - 50w JMP/JCM single channel
2210 - 100w JCM 800 2 channel
2205 - 50w JCM 800 2 channel

Those first 6 models evolved over the years so it’s entirely possible to find different bright caps, filtering values, and other circuit variations. Old Marshalls are kind of a PITA in that way.

Had my Stadium XL on stage for the first time last night. Great sounds and everything worked as expected, no flaws. 🤘 As we are Tribute Band , I only use 2-3 presets and had mainly the new Plexi for the crunch tones and the Lux Black for clean. But also one preset with HX model Cali Texas Ch2, that even sounded better than on OG Helix.
I am really enjoying the dynamics and the feel of the stadium after having used OG Helix for the last 5 years. Didn't think there would such a difference...

One thing though, I don't like the new tuner too much. The needle jumps way too nervous back and forth.

Any additional thoughts @dean701 ?
Haven't had time.
I have an amazing FAS preset that emulates the Tom Scholtz Boston sound. Took me years of tooling. My next goal is to try to do it on the Stadium. I've never been able to do it justice on the L6 stuff. It's pretty involved. Gonna go block by block and post it here if successful.

Also trying to master the chug type stuff. Going to try putting eqs before the amp block. The 3 band multiband is not my friend yet.

My Helix LT tuner also jumps a lot. Is it even worse?

Lately I use a TC-Electronics clip tuner. Much more precise than any other clip tuner I've used by far, and not jumpy at all. I'd like a similar behavior in Helix. It feels like it's uncomfortably precise, like it has more resolution than necessary.

Still would be curious even if not successful (perhaps not to the same level of detail but still) 😀
well, if you want to join on me on my journey. Here is my starting point. obviously presets are a personal thing. This is no means complete. I have many copies that I'm working on but the fundamental tone is there. I also used an ebmm axis which is completely different than most other guitars.

other notes to consider:
- the reverbs are just there for now (I don't necessarily like them)
- the pitch block is just for fun
- I put delay on EVERYTHING but sometimes put the mix to an inaudible level.
- the main blocks are the WAH, the IR and the EQ. The OD is to add gain since the plexi doesn't get it all the way there. IMO. It can but it loosens things up too much for me.
- I've been trying different wah types, screwing with compression, and eq.
- I have the preset input trim at -2.9db (each preset can have it's own input trim for those that don't know that)
- In the fractal world I use the proximity cab effect a lot. I like beef in my presets and cut it when recording to fit the need, so if you think it's chunky, it is)
- I put the compressor between the amp and cab because it does something interesting

Having said all that here is the IR and the preset.
IMPORTANT - longtime is the IR file so you need to rename it to .wav

sidenote - I also use (the FAS version) as my Flesh for Fantasy distortion sound

I don’t understand why it’s this way on either generation of Helix. Everyone else seems to be able to make a stable tuner. Fractal, Boss, Peterson, Kemper. Literally everyone else. Strobe mode is better, but not by much. It’s the one thing I hate about the unit.

Yes, it is ( a lot ) worse than the old Helix tuner...
The old one was actually great.

Wait so the 2203/4 are not JCM 800s? Now I'm really confused...
