Line 6 Helix Stadium Talk

There are MANY hills to die upon in this gear space (barf) but led strength for me is not one of them.

Each to their own of course, but among some other things, the bad visibility has been one of the key reasons for me to sell the Floor. And ultimately also to built my recent small board not around the Stomp but a GT1kCore and a Tonex.

Anyhow, that's not even exactly why I posted my original comment triggering all this yet again.
I just happen to think it's absolutely as legit to discuss about whatever UX shortcomings as it is to discuss about accurate amp modeling. Personally, I'd buy a Stadium with global blocks, better visibility and some up to date sound sculpting options but still using the old modeling engine any day over what is available right now.
Doesn't mean I don't like great new amps, not even remotely, but as I live player I have very different preferences.

Unfortunately this thread is comprised of primarily night gigging vampires. Googling around I actually see more folks asking HOW TO TURN THE LED BRIGHTNESS DOWN than anything else. :rofl

You can only make an LED so bright. This just feels like the guys you see taking flash photography of beach sunsets. Like…my dude…I don’t care what your power source is…it ain’t gonna light up the universe and it sure AF isn’t going to be brighter than the sun. I’m not sure how you solve this problem. I don’t know of many lights that are super visible in direct sunlight.

I'm sure you have any of those links handy.

True. For example as bright as on a GT-1000. Or on a TC Helicon. Which have ZERO visibility issues.

And fwiw, I'm not talking about direct bright sunlight. Diffuse stage light on sunny days is much more critical.

Sure. Here’s one.

My personal experience is that OG Helix is hard to see in an outdoor setting. Was hoping for brighter display and switches.

So, I went Friday to Sweetwater and played a Helix Stadium for a bit, dialed in a preset. Wasn't super jazzed with it, tbh. Even told the Turkey about it, and was just going to do an AM4.

Then my pal David brought his into the shop today, and we spent a few hours with it, but still all stock cabs. Wow. Seriously. Playing it through a single QSC K8, it's really, really good. For one thing, getting tones out of my stand-bys like the SLO100 and JCM800 was an absolute cinch. But I literally dialed in the new IIC+ with my eyes, and switched cabs (WTF Line 6; a 1960 with T75's is the matched cab?!) and bam. Perfect, right off the bat.

The IIC+ is going to end up being my main tone, for sure. I'm really, really digging it, and glad I didn't Timbuck my pre-order.

Have to agree with the Turkey here, never had an issue with the original and I used it a bunch in bright conditions. Maybe you didn’t increase the brightness to max?

Didn't know you couldn't read properly. Now I do.

I did.

Alrighty then, who’s up for a good five pages on brightness?!

I just dove into the stadium at length for the first time today. I found several workflow issues that I liked a lot better on my helix floor unless I’m missing something. Always had my big volume knob set to only control 1/4” out, now it looks like that’s something I will need a change every time the unit gets booted up. Press and hold on the XLR button but I’m pretty sure that reverts back when the unit is powered off.

I always want presets on the top row of foot switches and snapshots on the bottom. Now it appears that can only be done by selecting the combo option then that goes away once you change to a different preset.

Also the fact that you can’t select single or dual cab/IR is kind of weird. If you only want one you always have to select the no cab option in the second slot.

Especially the second issue I listed is a dealbreaker for me. That would really screw me up at a gig with the extra foot switch presses required. Previously these were things that could be changed in global settings and be permanent. It seems like there are far fewer settings available in global. I hope they can make these changes. If anyone found something different than I did please let me know.

Has anyone run across an issue where you have two cab blocks in series, disable the first one and enable the second, and the second one sounds shrill and thin? Delete the first cab block and all is well again?

Yes, I was trying to compare a factory cab to an IR with two separate blocks to switch between and ran into this issue. If you either delete one of them or move the second one to the other path, it sounds normal again.

I had read a tip about keeping a factory cab block muted to be able to change the impedance curve by selecting different cabs in the muted one while using an IR in another block, but haven't been able to figure out how to do that due to the issue with everything sounding weird like you mentioned.
