Line 6 Helix Stadium Talk

What are you guys playing your Stadiums through? I have it plugged into a CLR Atomic MKii and just tried it through my Powercab +. Preferring the CLR as the Powercab seems to add a little more high end but still sounds great.

Oh, and my Presonus studio monitors and 10" studio subwoofer.

A question about stem imports for Showcase - it might well be me being an idiot but would appreciate anyone else being able to tell me if it’s me or a quirk within current version.

I used Moises to split a song into 8 stems. I then put these into Studio One because I only wanted the click track until the drums came in on the track. I then exported these as ‘final stems’.

Unless I’m missing something, the mixer labels in Stadium XL are global, not song based. Maybe, with showcase, could I please ‘feature request’ to store these per song?

For this reason, I’ve labelled my mixer channels in a certain order and will then match it with stems appropriately. I went with
Drums
Bass
Vocals
Rhythm guitar
Lead guitar
Others (all keys, horns, you name it)
Backing vocals
Click track

I imported them into stadium using the app on my PC and….. it completely mixed up the order of the stems so they no longer matched my mixed labelling.

Did I do something wrong? Within Showcase, I was able to drag them where they needed to be but it was an unnecessary step imo.

I also had a bit of ghost in the machine with a previous song in there…. I’d imported a couple of songs on the supplied sd card. I then replaced that with a 128gig sandisk. I formatted the card from the maintanence menu and, for good measure, I told it to delete all songs.

I still had one song name left at the top of the screen….. I went into the songs menu on the device in normal use and again told it to delete. The song was gone but the song name remained at the top of the screen. It’s finally gone now I’ve imported the song that got jumbled but it was rather confusing as I couldn’t figure out where it was actually saved!

Yes I noticed the labelling issue you mentioned. I am still feeling my way around so I wasn't totally sure I didn't do something wrong but it appears that these labels are global and not per song which doesn't really make sense.

There's supposed to be a Per Song/Global Toggle in the upper right corner of the Matrix mixer, but it's not implemented just yet. Right now, the Matrix is global.

My hearing isn't the best recently, but I tested the stadium more so. This time against tonex also.

Current stadium firmware reminds me of tonex V1. That's unlike V2, where IK fixed the very high end that was missing.

That said, this is harder for me to hear atm and easier to feel. I suspect it may be part of what some perceive as better feel than fractal sims. But I could be wrong.

I tried EQ matching. Matching the stadium to my tonex V2 captures and fractal amp sims tends to bring out more of the very high end.

Matching the tonex V2 and fractal to the stadium does the opposite. It sweetens the tone and feel of the captures and the fractal sims.

What's better?

It's a metaphysically subjective, non mind independent evaluation.

For me, fractal and especially tonex V2 are hard to beat. I would prefer stadium to have a more accurate high end, even if it changes the feel somewhat.

PS 1: I agree that fractal isn't the absolute barometer of accuracy. That said, it's been demonstrated over and over again how accurate many of the sims are.

PS 2: for tonex V2 and amps I've captured, results have been spectacular. So I'm quite confident the high end is closer to these amps than stadium sims tend to be.

Also, the high end doesn't mean other aspects aren't better captured on the stadium than on other units. It's quite possible people perceive differences I do not.

For example, fractal updates many of their amp sims all the time. The feel often changes to some level. It's almost never "spot on" if you take what Cliff seems to think. So the nuances change again and again.

I believe we're at a level of such nuance where I am not at all surprised if experiences will vary a lot. Stadium may get certain things closer to accurate than other units.

Or maybe it doesn't -- but it just feels "better" to people nonetheless.

That’s great - I appreciate the reply and it’s good to know this is coming.

In the meantime, is there a way to persuade the stems to upload in the order I put them in?

I’m still very much at the exploring stage but this is looking like I’m going to enjoy it a great deal :)

I don't know that there's a way to control their order when importing, but in the song view, if you use the gear icon in the upper right corner, in that view, you should be able to drag them into the order you want them in.

I still cannot get my Stadium to login on the device. No QR code is shown or six digit code and when I try to login in with user name and PW the login button is greyed out. I'm about to send this thing back.
I love Line6 ,but from what I am watching since the November release to now
Multiple forums , FB , instagram , I know there are likely a bunch of people having minimal issues but the amount of different complaints from different people makes me believe it more than a few .

Ehhh I figured it out. I was assuming the grey color meant the login button wasn't available like on 99% of all other buttons that are on devices out there mean. Once I hit the button anyway, which it doesn't give you indication that its doing anything even if you do that, and I was patient... it finally logged in. IMHO Line 6 making the buttons grey with no indication it's trying to connect is super stupid as well as having to be logged in on the device to upgrade when I have it plugged in via USB. Again I hate connecting these devices to the internet via wifi. I get the "convenience" of not having to use a cable but to make it HAVE to be logged in on the device via wifi when using a USB cable to update is totally unnecessary.

Still enjoying yours for the most part? 😀

I wasn’t a few minutes ago. 😂

But yeah I’m digging but I don’t deal well with the having to jump through hoops to update so if it’s a huge pain in the ass it’s gong back and I couldn’t care less at that point if it was the best sounding thing out there which I think it is.

Oh this seems like a great idea what could possibly go wrong ?

...nothing much, really? This is the equivalent of what FracPad does, there's nothing sinister going on.

I understand why most companies are reluctant to do so, but i really wish L6 would some day publish official protocol specs for Helix/Stadium devices.

How are the Laney cabs? Love my clr but would be great to have something with a little thump.

You don’t need to be logged in to update over usb. I couldn’t log in when I got my device (the code was a generic 123456), so I updated via Line 6 Central app.

Afterwards, it let me log in, and I’ve been having a blast with it 😎
