Line 6 Helix Stadium Talk

If you’re running into something like a powerstage you’d set the SIC on to simulate the tube power section interacting with the cab. I suppose you’d have to choose the cab that was most like your physical cab and then bypass it so the SIC applies but the speaker modeling doesn’t.

Ok great - thanks!

I guess the challenge here is that we can't choose a SIC so we have to choose a physical cabinet that matches the expected SIC. I hope they get around to implementing a selection of SICs like Fractal.

Yup. I don’t love it, but I can work around it for now.

Took a quick look at the manual to see if 1.1.0 included the alternate tuner mode I was wishing for, but nope😆 I'll still have to buy an expression pedal to instantly mute the signal.

On the other hand, HAPPY HELIX STADIUM LAUNCH EVERYBODY, AND CONGRATS LINE6!🥳🥳🥳🥳

You may not need that with this tuner setting!

"[Specific Output]: The signal bypasses the preset and is routed directly to the selected output. For example, if you have a favorite stompbox or rack tuner, connect Helix Stadium’s Send 1 to the tuner, and if you set Tuner Output to “Send 1,” your instrument will automatically be routed to that tuner every time you hold FS12 (TAP/Tuner)."

But you still need to hold the Tap/Tuner footswitch to enable the tuner (and mute the output), don't you?

The idea is muting on press, not on hold, hence the alternate behavior idea.

Just confirmed with Brandon. If a linked Cab block is bypassed, it still informs its Amp block's SIC.
Awesome! So we actually do have the option to select a SIC - add a 2nd cab/IR block, bypass the amp-linked cab block and change the speakers in that block to taste?!

Can someone try that out?

If you're going out to a power amp, you don't want any SIC at all in the amp simulation, right? In that situation, the power amp is connected to a cabinet and is feeling, and reacting to, the impedance from that cabinet. In other words, as I understand it, no simulation of the impedance in the amp simulator is required or desired when using a real power amp and cabinet.
Depends on the poweramp.

When I had the Axe-Fx 3 and was comparing it to my real tube amps through a Fryette Power Station, I found that the closest matching impedance curve was the last thing that made the Axe-Fx -> Fryette -> cab setup sound/feel pretty much identical to my tube amps. I used the Brit JM45 4x10 impence curve with my Bluetone 4x10 w/ 10" Greenbacks, and some 1x12 Alnico Gold impedance curve with a 1x12 Alnico Gold cab.

I find for example the poweramp on my BluGuitar Amp 1 Mercury Edition is very similar to the Fryette PS behavior, maybe a bit less flat. By comparison, the Amp 1 Iridium Edition is far less neutral, which makes it a less ideal companion for modelers, but you can definitely work around that with modeler settings.

With a guitar poweramp you would likely want to disable the SIC, but realistically it's not the end of the world if you can't. It's "last mile" stuff when running into real cabs. It will still sound/feel just fine and you will likely compensate with amp settings.

I do hope Line6 adds the option though!

Anyone who has the new hardware play around with the black panel Bassman or Superbass models yet? The snippets of the SuperBass in the worship tutorials vid sounded great.

What I am noticing on re-listening to the Signal Theory demos is that the Fenders sound and feel right to me - that was my one complaint with Helix - that the Fender amps lacked some heft, weight and 'clang'. I clearly get a sense of that with the new Agoura amp models.

Some of the Tweed amps also seem to have more harmonic content...more 3D. Definitely like it.

Lastly, the Marshalls have a snarl and a different attack now which wasn't fully developed in the Helix (although, I did do a lot of comparison between Helix Plexi and the UA Lion, and I couldn't believe how close they were. So not knocking the Helix Plexi here - it is very good as it stands today for anyone playing one).

Everything else, I thought sounded great (minus the Bogner XTC which I thought something wasn't quite there - Agoura sounds/'feels' much better)

My take on helix is that the amp models tended to lack some depth and dimension and could be congested or choppy in the mids. Few of the have that low end thump or warmth you may expect and you may fight to get clarity without harshness.

From what I’m hearing so far the new amps sound clearer in the mids and may have a bit more of that low end presence. They do sound darker overall though.

Was Signal Theory created bc no one would take a worship tutorials high gain demo seriously? It's literally the same dudes :wat

They split and renamed the channels because 95% of what they’re doing now is demoing gear and selling presets and has nothing to do with worship music.

One thing I noticed yesterday. If I was a stoner/doom guy; the HX stuff would be a GREAT option. I'd love to hear it through a pair of 4x12s. Speaking of :satan
