Line 6 Helix Stadium Talk

Is there a bug where snapshots don't properly switch effect loops?? Getting weird behaviour here where I go to a snapshot, turn off an effect loop block. Go to another snapshot, turn it on. When I got back to the first snapshot, it doesn't turn off.

Worked here with stereo FX loop 1/2.

Check snapshot bypass setting?

Fuck me sideways.

Just trying out Stadium with my Mark V in 4-cable-method for the first time.

Now, you will get a ground loop if you don't use a 1:1 isolation transformer at the amp input. But once you do that .... EASILY the same kind of audio quality as the Axe FX III.

But also.... can't believe I'm going to say this ... the Horizon Gate ?? Much better than any of the gates in the Axe3. Way less jitter, way tighter, it just works.

I decided, bollocks to Dynamic Hall... went straight for Dynamic Plate. I don't know why... but Dynamic Plate sounds much more like what I would expect from a Hall algorithm; particularly when you open up the dampening filter to about 12kHz. Combined it with the Space Echo.... This sounds fucking epic.

Sat down with the Stadium again for a few hours yesterday. In combination with my FM3 as I updated it to FW12. Did some this, then that; then did some this AND that.

Nagging concerns:
1. I still miss the Plex Verb. I need to find the "drop in at default" equivalent of the Helix. I probably need to do a focus session with the delays and avoid the beep boop models?

2. The rotary options are DREADFUL. The difference between my FAS block at the defaults is staggering. I tried matching using one of the existing options but basic parameters were not the same and my desire to do math problems on something that is otherwise a walk in the park to use was not there.

3. The Mark IV is terrible. Sweet baby Jesus please let that IIC+ dry my tears in this regard. It's definitely tough being a huge fan when I'm sitting in a room full of them as well as inevitably comparing to the FMs.

Beyond those three main gripes; it's still fantastic. Sound quality is stellar and it's addictive as f to play. Cranking it through my studio monitors is a blast and up LOUD through the FR12 is :satan

I really can't emphasize the inverse amount of milk boiling I've needed to do with this. The struggle was real and my ears always ran screaming from that gross sizzle. Its just not there anymore and that makes the playing experience soooooooooo much more fun.

Yeah, the normal drive is set pretty high by default. I prefer just the treble channel.
The normal drive will give mud
The boosted plexi sound i dig was in the Synergy JMP module granted it 70s mode but he had it something like this
Normal drive 3
Bright drive 7
Bass 7
Mids 8
Treble 7 or 8
Master 7or 8
Boost front with a Tubescreamer and that should get a pretty gnarly sound

Don't know what the Plexi verb does what you do with that but dynamic Hall and plate are not bad at all, imho.

Yes, the 2 leslies (122 and 145?) have the cab baked in so you have to use them in parallel and even then....

Other rotary options are not the Leslies and don't deliver what I want from a rotary.
One of them is usable (triple rotary iirc) but not ideal.

I hope they'll add a huges & kettner model one day.

Heck; just model the Boss Rotary pedal and I'm golden. I don't want accurate rotary sounds so much a specific rotary sound that's bordering on an organ.

So here’s a question I never thought to ask. Are amp knob values (drive, BMT, etc) in Helix reflecting the tapers of the original circuits pots? Many pots have non linear tapers so it’s useful to know if 50% in the UI is the pot straight up or 50% of the full resistance available. I hope that question makes sense. I’d assume Helix reflects the tapers so the knob positions are 1-1 with where they’d be on the original circuit.

I believe so yes.

The Dynamic Plate is really good IMHO. As good as any I’ve tried.
