I tried cloning a guitar pedal with Helix Stadium… the result surprised me!
The new Helix Stadium firmware introduces a feature called Proxy, designed to capture the sound of real pedals and amplifiers.
So I tried cloning one of my pedals to see how close the result could get.
Can Helix really replicate a real analog pedal?

We're working on something but if it takes too long, we may have to add clone support to CustomTone.

Wow, this is amazing. It's exactly what we needed.
Another youtuber just here to hawk their wares with barely an attempt to engage with the forum. Can't believe we've never seen this before, what a novel idea.

I wasn't going to say anything but "the result surprised me", "full test in the video", "NOW how much would you pay?!?" vibe is pretty gross. (Especially since the mystery here seems to be "can we really clone a pedal", as if we haven't had similar technology on hand for oh, about a decade now.)Wow, this is amazing. It's exactly what we needed.

You get not beef from me chief. I only have an issue with the guys who just post links to their own videos with no attempt to engage outside of driving traffic to their YouTube channel.
I genuinely don't even remember the last time I saw you post one of your videos.

Thanks! I tend to shy away from posting my own content in forums - mostly because it annoys me when I see other people do it
.I've also always tried to live by the mantra, "If my content is good enough, other people will post it for me". Having said that, we did a video with Proxy, and we have a full set of amp clones and presets available for free.

Re: the AC30 - I haven't loved the Agoura AC30 CC model. It's a great AC30, but just not one of my favorite models. My '02 AC30/6 is one of my favs, and these clones came out REALLY good. They're all amp+cab clones (no direct on that one (no direct captures yet).

1.3.1 hotfix coming soon that improves a couple sonic quibbles in Proxy. Additional improvements coming in 1.4. Honestly, we could've kept tweaking things forever, but at a certain point, we need the masses to start cloning stuff so we can collect sufficient data to make sure we improve things the right way.

I'll also give my 2 cents on Proxy since I've been using it a bit. I've done about 60-70 or so clones so far ranging from amp+cab clones (most of them this way), amp-only clones, and pedals.
First - Proxy is on par with everything else on the market that I've used extensively, which is Tonex v2, QC v2, Kemper v2, and NAMM - granted, I have the least experience with NAMM. I've done a bunch of NAMM captures, but I rarely play NAMM captures in any meaningful context apart from just making them.
The amps I've captured so far:
The Dual Rec wasn't exactly like the amp - this is where I think Line 6 will work to improve the training. It was very close, but seemed to lack some aggression and high end. Adjusting the Pre Gain and high EQ controls on the Clone got it pretty dang close to the amp, though. Using the clones we made of that amp in presets was really, really good. So the high gain stuff is great - just doesn't seem to be as 100% accurate as low to mid gain amps.
The process is really easy and straightforward. Very similar to Quad Cortex v2. You have to wait for the clone to upload, train, and then download before you can use stadium - the unit is locked while this happens. The entire process - test signals to clone download took around 7-9 minutes, but with public access to L6's servers I'm not sure how that will go now.
Drive clones are equally great. Clones take about as much DSP as an Agoura amp and IR, including drive clones. So if you're using Amp+Cab clones, replacing an amp/cab block in a preset is sort of 1 to 1. BUT, if you have a DSP heavy preset and want to swap out a couple drive blocks for drive clones, you won't have the DSP to do it unless you clear up the row you're working in.
We make presets/captures for many of the bigger units - Fractal, Line 6, QC, Kemper, Tonex, Headrush, etc. I love all in one units, and my favorite/most used units over the past years have been Helix/Stadium, and Axe-FX III. I use a pedalboard into Tonex/QC often, too, but not as much as the all in one stuff. Proxy has taken Stadium up to a much different level for me. I think I can safely say that it's my all-time favorite unit now, hands down. I'm a unique case because I have access to a lot of different amps that I really want to play captures of, and now I can in a unit that I love to program and use.
Line 6 really did a great job with it. I'm excited to see where they take it in the future. Eric keeps talking about Proxy capturing 'other things', and I really want to know what that means, ha.
